Default Why are my tires brown?

My KM2s are turning brown. 3 of the 5 look great. 1 has a little brown on the sidewall and the last one is brown from the edge of the rim to the tread.

They all looked the same the day I mounted them. The two that turned brown did so 2 days (maybe 60 miles) later. Regular street driving. I have scrubbed them with every cleaner I can get my hands on and they still look the same. I have now put about 300 miles on them.

I have heard that tires that sit in the sun can turn brown, such as on motor homes, boat trailers, etc.. that dont get much use.

What gives? From a looks perspective it kind-of bothers me but nothing I can't live with. However, I am more concerned with any structural issues / defects this could be with the two tires.

The weather has been crappy here but I did take some pics. They look much worse in person.

My first three candidates in no particular order were going to be:

1.) Tire rubbed on curb.
2.) Sun Fade
3.) Mud stained

But it sounds like they're far to knew for any of those to be the real cause.

That is weird! I have seen tires develop a brown haze, but usually just scrubs off with cleaner. Have you call BFG? I had an issue with some Michelins on a Durango and they stepped up and made it right.

Did you try a scrub brush and Clorox or Ajax? And, have you been using any commercial tire cleaners that are supposed to leave them glossy black? It really looks like a film from something like that which has yellowed.

My KM2's are blue, I don't know why but after running them through mud they turn blue. Usually running them through sand will get them back to the regular black.

The only time I've seen brown is if there is mud/dirt that needs to get scrubbed off.

I've seen this with mine, but I always just assumed it was mud stains... I guess at least it'll look like you've been taking it out and having fun, even if you don't have the time? That's a good selling point perhaps.

Nope, no curbs or anything. I never use tire dressings either.

And the two turned brown after only 2 days!

I've run BFGs for years and never had this happen. I guess I will give them a call. Again, I really dont care that much about the look.... I am more concerned with whether or not the integrity of the tire - if this is a defect or something.

MY BFG A/T's have that fade too. For mine I am going to blame it on mud stains. Put some armorall over them, or scrub with degreaser and they'll turn black again.
