ive owned my jeep for a month now, and i broke the driverside axle today tryin to get back into my driveway from all the snow
heres a few pics of the carnage

its still under warranty, but the dealership is prolly gonna hassle me about it.
too bad i couldn't convince them its a rubicon and they can put a new d44 in the front

I have a couple of questions regarding the conditions:
With 31" of snow where you "plowing" through snow with the front of your Jeep?
Were your wheels turned when the U-Joint snapped?
Were the yokes in the joints damaged or just the cross bearings?

there was no snow bank, it was my gravel driveway, i got out fine, but getting back in was the problem
the wheel was turned when the u join snapped, and the 1 end of the yoke is broken off where the u joint goes in it

[QUOTE=spinlock;1551807]Unfortunately this is not a rare occurrence in deep snow on pavement. I hope the dealer doesn't hassle you about the lift and tires.

i bought it from the dealership with the lift and tires, so they have to warranty it

I am somewhat surprised the front wheels had enough traction on the gravel driveway, but the low temperature probably froze the ground and gravel and made the U-joint more brittle.
The biggest contributor was that the wheels were turned so the joints were operating at an angle which greatly reduces their strength.
At least the weakest link by design did fail avoiding more costly repairs.
Best of luck in getting your repairs covered by the warranty. IMO it does help that your dealer installed the mods.
