Default Break in period on new Jeep

Ok , so I picked up my Jeep on friday and have put about 400 kms on it already . I would say 100 kms to 150 kms were on the highway where I reached speeds of 110 kms to 120 kms at the most . So my question is, am I doing bad during break in period ? I looked through the manual and there is absolutely nothing suggesting engine break in . Now I am worried that maybe I f'd up

thats fine. just don't race through the gears like a kid driving someone else car. common sense and you will be fine. really no brake in time but slow at first is a good idea

One thing you should notice is that after 2-5K miles, your engine will seem to really wake up. It won't be a Corvette, but there will definitely be more "oomph" behind the gas pedal.

The best thing to do is vary your rpms... the worst you can do is go on a long drive with the cruise set at one speed. You want to break in the whole power band.

they must have removed it from the manual. mines an 07 and had a recommended break-in procedure. can't remember and have since lost my owners manual. like stated above vary the rpm(intown driving) and avoid long cruises at one set rpm(highway driving).

The 2009 Owners Manual (p 72) has the following to say about the break-in period:

ENGINE BREAK-IN RECOMMENDATIONS
A long break-in period is not required for the engine in
your vehicle.

Drive moderately during the first 300 miles (500 km).
After the initial 60 miles (100 km), speeds up to 50 or
55 mph (80 or 90 km/h) are desirable.

While cruising, brief full-throttle acceleration within the
limits of local traffic laws, contributes to a good break-in.
Wide-open throttle acceleration in low gear can be detrimental
and should be avoided.

Enjoy your new Jeep.

The Break in period is very important. I had a 2dr sportscar before my jeep and at about 1500 miles, I REALLY tested out the engine.

Lets just say the ending result was a tick in the engine that I could never fix. Take your time vary the RPMs and easy on the accelerator. IMO, I believe that only a couple hundred miles is a joke to consider an engine to be broken in.

ENJOY the JK!!

Funny you say this..my dad grew up in the 60's muscle car era and told me to hang tight for the motor to break in (about 3K-5K) since Dodge and Chryslers always had a longer break in period than GM and Ford's. At 3,400 I do notice it is a little more peppy (though that's not saying much for the 3.8).

I was always under the impression that you wanted to stay away from full throttle blips....darn -- to late to rewind the clock!

20 new vehicles? You haven't given them enough of a chance to have a failure then

Wait a second, I can't say a damn thing. I'm pretty close to that number as well, LOL
