Default Paint

Just wondering what suggestions folks have with regard to rust protection, paint, coatings, etc. (I don't want to have to "freshen" up the paint/finish again in six months).

I usually just spray bomb everything underneath twice a year with rustoleum. It keeps things looking pretty good despite all the road salt we get here.

Searched the site for a thread or two on this topic, but didn't find anything specific to coils so thanks for any constructive inputs/tips you guys can provide.

Springs/coils in the below pics are clean - blemishes are from rust or pitting. At the moment, the game plan is to 1) remove the rust, 2) spray with some sort of rust treatment, 3) paint, 4) finish with some type of clear protective layer (??). Not sure about the last step.

You will probably be OK by just spraying the top an lower coil, but usually the constant flexing of the coils cracks most paints which is why good quality coils are powdercoated.

Gary, Sorry about the rust, I would have sprayed them, but I didn't wnat you to think I was trying to cover anything up. I took the ones I got and coated them with a Rustoleum Textered Black, matched the finish on my Expedition One Bumper.

I also cleaned the underneath of the jeep, and sprayed the entire underside of the jeep(excluding the Exhaust,I used 1200 degree grill paint on it)with the textured rustoleum black before we went on this last ride. When I got home and pressure washed everything, the mud came off so easily, and the undercariage looked like new.

Any recommendations with respect to specific type/brand of paint in mind?

You could have them sand blasted, then powdercoated. Probably run you ~$100 depending on the shop.

Sandblast them, POR them and put on a good top coat paint. Pretty much as good as powdercoating if done properly.
