I had the same problem in 2008; I bought a Jeep Patriot for my DD. It was a good decision

The JK is for the Week-ends, and for the trail

If you need a vehicle that gets good mileage, the wrangler is not for you. In general, getting more than 20mpg is not going to happen.

You could push it...

Or disconnect the front axle from the transfer, if your desperate.

You could do what I do. Have a second car that gets 55 mpg. ('01 VW TDI).

A friend of mine did that and, with the distance he was driving to work every day, the fuel savings paid for his used VW in about 18 months.

The Jeep has been averaging 17-19 mpg. The majority of this Jeep's driving is highway, It is well known that the Jeep's 3.8L V6 is not a power house by any means but was capable of maintaining speed even on some of the longer hills. A power chip, open air intake system, and cat back exhaust would probably add some much needed horse power.

Depends on how much you drive, I guess.

The guy in my example didn't spend any more money while making the payments. After it was paid off, it was all gravy.
