That's a lot of information your looking for there, if you go to YouTube, I have seen a few videos that show how your gears work. It was a old video but very informative. I think it was done by GM

X and Sahara: Rear dana 44 front dana 30
Rubicon: dana 44 rear and front
Rubicon: lockers front and rear
You can put aftermarket lockers on an X and Sahara
Rubicon: 4.1 ratio with 4.1 transfer case
X and Sahara: 3.21 or 3.73 or 4.1 ratio with 2.72 transfer case

You've probably noticed also that your front axle shafts need to be able to articulate to fascilitate turning, so the front shafts themselves utilize U-joints, where as the rear axle shafts are straight shafts bolted directly to the tire because there is no requirement for them to turn.
The rear axle shafts have outer bearings which require lubrication from the pumpkin, where as the front uses unit hub bearing assemblies which are self contained and require no maintenece. Dana 30 uses smaller components than the 44.
