Default Aftermarket Driveshaft Questions?

Ok, just put the RC 3.25 lift on a couple of months ago, so far so good with stock driveshafts (I have 2 door 6 speed) BUT I want to start saving money for rear drive shaft upgrade and have some questions?

What drive shaft choices do I have? How much do they run?

I understand I will need adjustable rear upper control arms to put on aftermarket shaft, is this correct? Which brand do you guys suggest and how much do they run?

How much on average would a shop charge to install driveshaft and control arms?

Do I need an offroad shop to install the driveshaft or could any competent mechanic do it? I installed my own lift but I think driveshaft is outside my comfort zone.

I just need to know how much I need to save for this upgrade? Thanks for advice and opinions.

Drives shaft average around 400-500 bucks. As for Control arms, I would recommend some teraflex or currie. Call Dave at Northridge4X4, he will set you up perfectly.

I have Coast 1310 shafts. IMO if you can install a lift, you can swap a driveshaft, but whatever you are comfortable with.

Yes you will need new rear uppers to get your angles right. I happen to have TeraFlex, there are other popular options like JKS & Currie also.

I have no clue what a shop would charge, i did my own lift & shafts.

It's only a couple hours of work though.

Definately agree. If you can install at lift, you can definately install a drive shaft. No worries.

Would this be what I need? Is there anything else I would need to get?

besides the tools to do it, nope.

I forget the socket size for the yokes, it's big. If you know anyone with a large socket set (farm!) then you should be able to find what you need. There is an old thread about installing shafts, Installing JE REEL 1350 Rear Driveshaft
it isnt hard except all them flippin little stock bolts.

Thanks for your help guys. Looks like I am looking at about 800 without labor but after looking at instructions I think I may be able to do this myself. when it comes time to do it, I am sure I will have a couple of more questions. Are there any writeups for this?

Just posted a link above that should help.

Check around on prices for things, some deals going on most times if you hunt enough.

Dave @ Northridge4x4 is the man!

I had just ordered front and rear driveshafts from Tatton Driveshafts (801) 685-0056 after reading a posting from another JK owner about his experience with these shafts. He make shafts for "Tera Flex". He charges $400.00 each (front/rear) shipped, which is $100-150.00 less than other suppliers. They have Spicer 44 yokes and U-bolts (NOT STRAPS). They are 1310's, and I have wheeled my TJ with 1310 shafts for 13 years on Dana 60's with chrome molly shafts, CTM's, 38.5 Super Swampers filled with H20, and never have had a problem with them. I figured that I should order these after reading about the weak joints, even though I purchased my JK used with 55,000 miles on it and everything looked fine (4" frankenstein lift). Last night while returning from a run with a friend, I was running down the freeway at 65 mph when my friend told me that I had fire balls dripping from under my Jeep. I pulled over and used my fire extinguisher on the front drive shaft as I was red hot and the rubber seal caught on fire and was dripping "fire balls" onto the road. My shafts should arrive this week from Tatton. I have Tera Flex arms to correct the drive shaft angles. I would think that if you could install a lift, you should have no problem installing driveshafts, but any mechanic shop should be able to do the swap for you.
