Default 5.13s vs. 5.38s

Rubi 4 door w/ 35s. only want to buy gears once so my question is if the 5.13s are good match for 35s then would 5.38s be that much better?

Im guessing since your considering going that low that you have an auto. I have the 6 speed and I have 5:13s and feel they are perfect across the board. If you look at the chart Im in the highest blue range.

Love my setup completly. That said, I do no Highway commuting but if I did, it would not bother me.

I have 5.13s on my 4-door, auto, with 35s. I don't think I would like 5.38s. I do a fair bit of highway driving and at 70mph I am at 2500rpm, which isn't excessive, but I don't think I would want it any higher. Plus top end over 70mph, if I need to get to 75 or something for some reason, is pretty poor unless you kick it down and rev it to 4500-5000RPM.

I think 5.13s are fine for 4-door, auto, with 35s, and would probably even be bearable to run 37s with them. I imagine the RPM at 70mph on highway with 37s would be maybe 2100-2300 still, which is still better than stock at keeping the rig from shifting non-stop as it did when I had 32s and 3.73s.

There is only about 150 rpm difference between the 5.13 and 5.38. So the revs are not a big deal. I am very satified with 5.13s and 35s. I will go to 37s eventually and I am convinced that it will be fine for the 6 speed.

X2, I have the same set up and I am very happy with it, the area that I live in is kind of hilly and the 4.10s and 35s sucked even with a programmer

I found that the 5:13s were a little too much gear for my 35s. When i went the 37s, it felt like a better match.

yeah i have an auto, and i do more street driving than offroad as it is my DD, im just kinda getting a feel for folks who have upgraded gears. i just dont want to spend the money to always think if i had gone 5.38s would life be better.

I agree on the highway 35s and 5.13s are almost to much. But they are great offroad. Since my JK is mostly an offroad toy it is just great when in the rocks. But I knew I was going to 37s so I wanted to have the right gear when that happens.

My only regret is I took so long before I re-geared. Not the cheapest upgrade but by far the best upgrade to a lifted Jeep with bigger tires.

+2 on that. Once my 35's wear out. 37's are going on. It's pretty low for the street. But great off road. I bet with 37's I will hit the sweet spot.
