Default OR Fab tire carrier - cans or no cans?

Hey guys, just struggling over whether to get the OR Fab tire carrier with the cans or not. I like having the option of the cans but don't care for how far it sticks out from the back of the Jeep. what do all of you think/suggest?

I went without cans for the same reason. I would not have fit in my garage if I had added cans. Not sure if that matters for you or not, but it makes a huge difference in overall length of the Jeep. Great carrier though as long as you get over the drilling into your Jeep part of the install.

I went with the cans. We often pack the dog along on our trail rides and I don't really want to have a can of fuel sitting back there next to him all day.

Plus I can use one can and then store some gear in the other slot, makes up for a lack of storage space.

I went with the can carrier because I did not want to have the fuel inside the Jeep. It also holds the Hi Lift. I am not sure if the non can version does or not. It is a very stout tire carrier and I am sure you will be happy with either version.

If you have the skills to install this carrier you can fab up almost anything to go in that area.
Personally I don't think it sticks out too far and I can always use the extra storage.

The carrier has 2 "U" shaped brackets on the bottom bar...see my 1st pic. The ammo can is a 20MM can (I think) found it at army surplus store and cut a small slit in it to rest on that "U" bracket. The threaded bars and brackets on top also came with the carrier.

The spare tire sits exactly 7 3/4" further back than the stock position with the jerry can version. Not really a "huge difference in overall length". You must have be a good parker if you don't have 7 3/4" to spare in your garage

I think it would be a waste to get it without the jerry can carrier. It has everything you need in one system.
