Default 12.5 wide tire and backspacing

Hi all,

I want to buy a set of 33x12.5R16(baja claw) and new 16'x8 wheels with less backspace to prevent rubbing issues.

Ive made some research on this forum and found that most of you will go with 4.5'' of backspacing,but in this case, tires will stick out of fender(0.5 to 0.75'')That is what I dont want.

Since I got the sahara painted fender,I dont plan buying new larger fender,so my question is:

If I buy wheels with 5'' of backspace I should be ok with stock fenders, will it rub at full turn? even if the tire im buying are 305/70/16(33x12.0)?

Or should I go with 33x11.5?

Thanks for your help

Might could get away with 5" if u adjust your steer stops, but best bet would be 4.5", or like u said, a narrower tire, but u may soon after wish u had gone with 4.5" BS with a 12.5?

The oem tires are 255 mm, or ~ 10" in section width.

A tire with 12.5" of section width will protrude inboard, and outboard, by half the difference, or by ~ 1.25"

The OEM BS is 6.25", if you move the tire out board by ~ 1.25", it will restore about stock inboard clearance.

6.25" - 1.25" = ~ 5"

This means that 5" of BS will give you just enough inboard clearance.

As far as fender/outboard clearance, the tire width moves you out by ~ 1.25", and the BS moves you out another 1.25", for a total outboard shift of ~ 2.5".

Look at your current tire clearance, and measure out 2.5" (If its stock/255 mm now...), and see if the TREAD is out too far.

If not, you're OK.

i can tell you, it will stick out past the fender with 4.5". we are running the same tire width on the sahara. it sticks out maybe 2". its not that drastic. if you are worried about looks more than function, go with the 5"bs, but just know that it will rub in a full lock turn.

So I mesured with my winter tire (31.5x10.5) there is ~1'' free until its flush to the fender.

So I could not find 16x8 wheel with 5'' of BS, Most 16x8 have 4.5 BS

==>6.25 - 4.5 = 1.75''

==>with 33x12.5==>12.5 -10.5 = 2''/2 = 1''

Total: 2.75'' - 1''(free) = 1.75''

thats a lot, I consider up to 0,75''-1'' is tolerable

If I go with 33x11.5 instead: 1.75'' - 0.5'' = 1.25'' Thats better but still too much

4.75''-5'' BS wheel would be ok

Thats sad, MT classic II/Pro comp series 1069 16x8 are 4.5'' BS :(

but serie 1069 offer a 17x9 with 4.75'' BS, I think I will go with this setup with 33x11.5

Anybody know a similar 16x8 wheel with 4.75'' - 5'' BS?
