XRC Rear Bumper...3rd Brake Light?
I got my XRC rear bumper today and we looked at the instructions. What concerns me is that there aren't any directions addressing the 3rd brake light. For those of you who installed one with the tire carrier what are we supposed to do with the third brake light? Yes, I can call the tech support hotline when we're ready to install the bumper, but just thought I'd get some input here first.
Have you checked your state regs to see if it's even needed? Here in Illinois they aren't. The Fed law says that vehicles have to be equipped with them to be sold, but that's it. I think they're ugly so I cut mine off.
Yeah, they really don't address in the instructions how to assemble/install the 3rd BL.
Disassemble your old one by removing the torx screws that secure the lens to the OEM spare tire bracket. Install it in the bracket Smittybilt gave you, then install that into the other bracket they gave you. Mount the whole assembly to the tire carrier. It mounts between the spare tire bracket (one with the wheel studs) and the carrier itself using the supplied wheel stud bolts. You will probably understand it better once you put the pieces together. It's flimsy as hell when mounted. I installed two screws in mine through the brake light bracket and into the carrier to stiffen it up.

I had the same problem when I installed mine. I got a warning from a cop at the auto craft center about not having a 3rd brake light on my jeep. Its like a $75 fine so I broke down and got this relocation bracket.
