Default Dust caps & Coast DS's...

I just replaced my front and rear driveshafts and I want the official word from the guys who have done it previously.

Are the dust caps needed on either axle?

Right now I am getting a slight scraping noise and they have to be the culprit.

Thx...

I just put my front on a few weeks ago and used the oem dust cap. It squeeks too, but I put some grease in the gap and its good for 2-3 weeks...

Well my buddy on this forum has been having seal problems on I think his rear driveshaft from what I understand debris getting in there. After several seals and a worn down sleeve, a speedi sleeve was put on and a new seal. It has been fine since.

My driveshafts were installed in January and I have been wheeling 3 times so far. I have no idea if they are damaged or not. I will find out when I change my ring and pinion.

I am not sure if Ill be putting my dust shields on or not when I install my lower gears.

Im sorry I have said nothing here to help!

If I had to pick, id say give the dust shields a try?

ttt . . .

Got my new Coast front from David @ Northridge4x4 sitting in the box. What should I do?

Should I install or transfer the OEM dust shield and squeak or go without it?

Has anyone called to ask Coast?

I don't have coast DS's but Tom Woods instructions say to use the ones on the diff but the yoke on the transfer is designed to not use them. Just my 2 cents!

Tom Woods drive shafts with dustcover on diff ends only. No noises or problems.

It's official! I just received a call from Bill @ Coast (great customer service btw) and he said that the dust covers (slingers) are not required with the new yoke install. Hopefully this helps anyone doing a Coast install in the future.
