2DR Rubi Axles into Unlimited X?
Hey all,
Was out this past weekend at the salvage yard looking for a new mirror for my beater and saw what was once a 2dr rubi burnt to a crisp and the first thing that came to mind was, mmmm D44 and lockers!
What sort of committment am I looking at if I attempt to do the swap? Is it a simple as reusing my existing driveshaft, wire up the lockers and do a flash to get everything working?
Can I get away at just picking up the front D44 and buying an aftermarket locker for the rear? But then I'd probably have to regear the back to 4.10's too huh.
Rubi D44 + lockers + 4.10's would be a great improvement over my LSD'ed 3.73s!
Thanks!

With burned up parts, if the axles got warmed up they might be warped, more than likely you'l need to replace seals and refurb them. Can't comment on the condition of the lockers not sure what excessive heat might do to those.
If you replace just the front, you need to match the gears front /rear.

Depending how hot the axles got, but replacing the seals would be a good idea. Take both to a shop and have them replace the seals. You can wire the lockers separately from the computer and this would be the easiest thing to do. That way you can also turn the lockers on independently and in high or low. It would be worth it if the axles aren't warped by heat. I would first pull the covers in the junk yard to make sure everything looks ok inside.
Hmm, good points about heat, seals and warping.
The fire looked to have started in the engine bay therefore the front may be toast. The rear looked pretty good -- the rear seat was still intact therefore no damage. He was selling the Jeep as a 'rear clip' only.
