Default Advice on the smittybilt xrc rear bumper and tire carrier

Just put it on and the directions kinda sucked. my main concern is that i left the license plate where it comes stock and was hoping to relocate it to the center of the wheel. I dont wanna take the bumper completely off but the bumper is in the way of the bracket, which i believe is plastic. Has any one ripped it off and been alright? does any one think this would be okay without fucking shit up too bad??? lol also i have two silver pins that i never used not sure where they go. Kickass bumper tho.

just for laughs after i installed it my asshole neighbor told me all i needed now is a lift, not knowing i have a 3 inch lft i guess haha i wanted to punch him in the face when i heard that.

congratulations on actually getting yours on. I have recieved 3 different bumpers from smittybilt and all 3 hit the body and didn't allow my tailgate to open. As for the license plate not sure since i don't have a bumper on. good luck

The leftover "silver pins" are rivets. I believe they are for attaching the 3rd brake light to the carrier, but who knows. I didn't use them, or the brake light. I prefer a small L.E.D.

Install some 1/2" washers on your body mounts. Doesn't take much, maybe 2 per mount to give some clearance between the bumper and the LP bracket.

As far as just ripping it off. No. I would'nt do it. Maybe cut as you pull it off, but don't just rip it off.

You can remove the stock license plate holder real easy... Theres two screws that hold it on to the body behind the plate. And the little plasticky piece that wraps under the Smitty bumper you can just break off, won't need it anyway. I plan to relocate mine using the Rock Hard bracket or maybe have a buddy of mine weld up a real simple DIY bracket. I've knocked the stock one off 2 times now and I'm sick of fixing it over and over. Right now it's been fine, but then again I haven't been wheeling in almost 2 months!!! ugh.

I am looking at putting this bumper on as well. I want to see all the rigs in Moab this week and see which one I like the best.

I need it to hold a 37" tire and I would like to hold a gas can and shovel.

I had the exact same problem. Ended up loosening all four bolts on tailgate, lifting, then re-bolting. Turns out that was all I needed. This was after trying to drill out holes to drop the whole bumper. It was just the right amount of clearance I needed and very easy.
