Default Daystar Hood Wrangler Help

So, my question is simple and it probably has a simple answer, but how do you get the bottom latches off the body to begin with? I can't seem to get a wrench down in there to loosen the nut and I'm afraid to just start prying the plastic bolts off with a screw driver. The picture in the instructions sucks. It just shows a guy pointing at the latch. What am I missing here?

I saw another post where somebody said they just left the latches on. But when I tried to start popping off the plastic bolt with a screw driver it started digging into the plastic of the base. Can somebody who's done this help?

Thanks!

It is hard to get down in there with a ratchet, but possible. I used a standard sized ratchet on first side and pushed it down in between the fender and plastic - took some forcing and maneuvering, LOL. Then I realized I had a tiny ratchet set, so I used the tiny ratchet and extension and it worked easier...

Definitely need to unscrew it, not pry it off... I mean you could try to remove the nylon nuts with it on there, but its much easier with it off. Inside the nylon ends is actually a steel reinforced shaft so, I would just do it per their directions...

Pretty sure I used a small 1/4" drive ratchet and socket to do this. It has been awhile back. Not nearly as easy as I thought it should be.

I think I read somewhere on the board that you could cut the rubber across the top of the bolt and then use some snippers to cut the "bolt." This way you don't have to remove the base. Make sense?

i agree with the last post, i cut the rubber with a razor blade and then used the tip of the side cutters to to nip away the plastic. make a small cut then turn it and repeat, once all the way around you can just pull the ends apart very easily. it takes about 10 seconds to complete.

I did the same. It would take longer to get one side off the fender than it took me to completely finish both sides.

Cool, thanks for the cutting tips. I'll give that a shot tomorrow when I have better light.

I removed the latches from the body and then took 2 vice grips and twisted them in opposite directions till the plastic pin snapped......then I just put it back together with the Daystar stuff. Worked like a charm.

You will need a small ratchet to remove it from the body

Good luck!

Leave it on the body. Grab both ends of the pin with pliers. Pull.
It really takes 5 minutes.
