Default How to shorten center caps?

I got my black rock wheels today with black centers but the centers stick out almost flush with the outside of the wheel. I tried searching because I thought i remembered someone showing how to shorten them but I can't find it. Has anyone had any luck shortening these centers?

i'm thinking about just notching them all at intervals by about a half inch and starring them out so they will have more to hold the cap in and shorten it a bit

That is how I would do it. 'flare' it more or less.

I shortened all 5 center caps by just over an inch today. I used a table saw and set the depth of the blade to just over and inch and just ran the centers over the blade repeatedly at quarter inch intervals (ballpark). then I bent each section back in a star pattern and cut the excess with tin snips, leaving approx a quarter inch to grabl the back of the wheel.

I shortened my plastic like material American Racing center caps on my Mojave Wheels after replacing two of them ($30.00 a piece). I couldn't find any replacement caps of the proper diameter, and even tried various lids, caps, and even thought of cutting down hockey pucks to fill the centers. I finally used a multi-tool from Harbor Freight to cut an inch off the back lip of the caps. I then placed the cap back in the wheel with the wheel lying face down on the floor and wooden spacers to hold the cap at the right height. I heated up an extra long shoe horn that I also purchased at Harbor Freight (go figure), with a propane torch. I kept the torch flame against the metal shoe horn as I quickly moved it around the plastic caps surface to form a flair. Since the caps were tapered, I had to put several wraps of black electrical tape around the caps within the thick aluminum wheel cap opening to take up the slop. I have not had any breakage since. They look factory and don't rattle. Life is good.
