Default New gears (5.13) installed; now have loud buzzing/vibration from front end at 70MPH +

Off Road Evolution just installed Yukon 5.13s in my 08 Sahara Unlimited. After the install, I hear (and even feel) a buzzing sound from what appears to be the front at 70MPH. It gets louder with increased speed. I haven't dared push it above 75MPH.

The gears now have 200 miles on them, so perhaps this is part of the break-in period, but I wanted to ask you guys just in case. Any thoughts? BTW I don't hear any "whine" sounds.

Thanks in advance!

There souldn't be any noise at any time. Some claim a tiny whine at break in... but I have never had gears make noise. I would take the Jeep back to the shop ASAP and take the shop manager for a ride. Could be something as simple as a crush sleave not fully crushed. 200 miles is already a good bit. I wouldn't chance any more before you take it in.

I was wondering if you have adjustable control arms or anything? What does your pinion angle look like in the front? Unless you have added manual hubs your front driveshaft spins all the time when driving, and not it spins a few hundred more RPM's at that speed. Any balance or pinion angle issues could be emphasized by the faster spin.

That said, my 5.13s make no noise at all. They have been quiet since the start.

yup...you really need to get it back to them and have it looked at...as mentioned, could be crush sleeve, could be improper gear setup...it should not vibrate/rattle/grind/whine

EVO usually recommends that you not exceed 60 MPH during the 500 mile heat cycling break-in period. You are driving 25% above that speed.

OK, thanks guys.

@Spinlock: they said not to exceed 60MPH for the first *100* miles, and then come in at 500 for an inspection of the wear pattern and diff fluid change. Heat cycling was recommended for that first 100 miles as well.

I had the same noise/vibration but mine is VERY loud and big vibration coming from the rear end. I just bought the Jeep 3 weeks ago and installed 5.13's with 37's. When I coast down the road no noise hit the pedal just a little and i have the noise and vibration in the pedal. I thought it was in the front but I jacked the rear up put it on jacks, started it and put it in gear. there it was coming from the rear end. I only have 700 miles on the Jeep total and the oil was really black and smelled of burnt oil.

I am very disappointed with my setup 5.13's and 37's with auto. I wished I had gone with 5.38's. I did the intake and the Superchip programming will be ready in about 1-2 weeks.

I am taking mine back to the guy on Tuesday. Also the passenger front axle shaft is leaking oil, so he must have bunged up the seal while putting it back together.

I will let you know.

Hopefully each of your shops can figure out the issues...keep us all updated because I am curious as to if it is an actual gear issue or something with the driveshafts.

Your gears were not setup properly if you can smell a burnt oil and you have vibration when you hit the accelerator, I used to do gear setups and this is a for sure sign of inproper gear setup.

I just saw that ORE installed these. I would def. take it back and let them take a peek. They have a great reputation, and will take good care of your rig.

Ok, the Jeep is in the shop, I should know what the problem with mine is tomorrow.

I hope just because it is paid in full and this is a warranty thing he gets on it in a timely manor. I have wheeling to do.
