MBRP off-road exhaust initial impressions
Hello all,
I finally got my exhaust installed today. It's really the last piece of the performance puzzle upgrades i plan on so i've been looking forward to the final result.
1. The install: I didn't do the install so i can't comment on that however, the installer is someone I've gone to for a long time and completely trust and he said
a. the evap canister guard plate had to have holes drilled because it didn't line up. (He said the plate sat right on the canistor and didn't feel it should). On a medium to hard left the muffler rattles on the plate.
b. he cut the tab at the rear that goes through the rubber grommet shorter to make sure it didn't rub on the frame. (may not have been necessary but he thought it prudent.)
2. The sound: Sounds good to me. A steady droan in the cabin and a bit louder than prefered on the highway but still comfortable. Has a good rip to it when getting on it.
3. The performance: See my tag below for my other options. I also have 26k on the odo now. The engine felt as though it's final "breaking in" stage was at about 20k. So with the engine broken in and the mods below I can say it literally felt like someone pulled the banana out of my tail pipe. Before, the Jeep never seemed to want to approach red line. Now I hit red line with out much effort. The engine seems much more willing to rev and this 6 likes it in the higher RPMs. The Butt-o-meter says major improvement. The "cluch test" as I call it says some low end inprovement. The engine doesn't seem to bog down as much just letting the cluch out with no gas.
To soon to tell anything on MPG's yet but with the engine seeming hitting higher rpms much faster and easier I don't expect and improvement initially.
Overall Very satisfied so far.
I will add that I intalled the Spark plugs after the exhaust was done and the new plugs seemed to mellow/smooth out the exhaust note a bit. For whats thats worth.

Sorry for the delay in responding. That is the kit i got but not in black. I also got the evap canistor guard plate which is necessary. I would recommend the evap relocate instead though as it seems to be a kill two birds with one stone type option. Not sure on cost but it probably doesn't cost any more either.

Hey, I recently got the same install this weekend. My initial thoughts were, "Did they install it correctly". It sounds like a rice rocket the first day. I've owned only V8's in the past so maybe its the V6 that's making it sound weird to me. The same day I got a AFE CAI and a AFE throttle body.
All these upgrades made the exhaust tolerable sounding. The performance was greatly enhanced too.

on youtube i thought it sounded pretty nice - im really looking for one that has a deep low sound not a higher pitch motorcycle type sound - i had the pacific blue limited edition H2 and that had a nice sounding exhaust - man i need to figure this out
i just got mine put on also. i think it sounds amazing! i read up on it and we are supposed to get around +2 mpg, +9 hp and +15 fpt. i havnt noticed the mpg increase yet but definately the other 2. i have a huge hill to climb to get home and i was bogging in 4th now i can cruise right up in 5th with no issues. i got my stainless one off of a buddy on here for real cheap. he ran it for about a month or so then pulled it off. awesome deal
