Any advice before MBRP roof rack install?
I got my roof rack in today. Im planning on starting the install this weekend with the help of my girlfriend, but I thought I would ask those of you who have this rack if theres any good advice you have that you learned while doing your own. I went over the instructions, they seem pritty straight forward so Im not too worried even though the pictures are close to being unrecognizable different shades of black. I read about cutting down an allen wrench to make it easier, but what size is the allen? Any help would be great. Thanks a lot.
It's pretty straight forward just cut the templates carefully and measure twice before drilling. (Have a vacuum handy because the fiberglass shavings goeverywhere) The kit actually allows for a little play to get everything lined up correctly, two people makes the job way easier that's for sure. I didn't cut the allen down just crammed it in there sideways and got it to work. Good Luck and post picks when you get it installed!
Do the templates Go inside or outside the hard top? It looks like inside but what I have found from other post's it looks like they go outside. Also Im guessing you just flip the 2 templates over to use on the other side of the hard top? Since it says they are mirrors of eachother?
they go on the outside.
Other things i found was it can be a bit of a tight fit getting some of the bolts through. I did it by myself though so it didnt help.
Also, if your thinking of running any lights up top like i did it would be a much better idea to run the cables while you are putting it all together.
Also, if you have the time id go get some rubber and cut it the same as those stick on foam bits that go between the bar and the roof where it connects and use that instead, ill be doing that latter i think.
