Stinger vs. deer? Need stinger advice @ any rate.
Not too long ago, some local folks got killed in their TJ after a deer collision. Real sad stuff. I have been thinking about tires as my first "mod" to my JK, but after seeing this on the news, I've been thinking a stinger front bumper (which is something I was planning on doing later on, anyway) might become first on the list. Do you think in a head on collision with a deer, the stinger might push the deer under the Jeep rather than what usually happens (deer's legs get taken out from under it, and it slides up the hood and crashes through the windshield)? I drive a lot of rural roads, and have had to swerve to miss deer before, so if it would work, I think it would be worth it. I have a new baby on the way too (my 1st) so I was kind of thinking of that too.
I'm looking at the OR-Fab mostly, and have looked at the Poison Spyder a bit as well, but would love to hear input on other stinger models.
All ears here.
TIA.

I have the OR-Fab stinger and I originally thought a benefit of having it would be if I hit a deer. I think it would have to be a really big deer to not be pushed under with that stinger... of course, who knows what happens when you run over a deer at 50mph? I suppose it probably wouldn't be as bad as a deer through the windshield...
.300 WinMag takes good care of deer
I think anything that you hang off the front in the form of steel will help with a front end encouter with the four legged dinner table type. The stinger might help shove the carcass under your rig but no one can predict what will happen in all situations. You still might split the thing wide open and half goes under, half goes over.
I would say maybe a little less speed and upgraded lights so you can actually see the deer further down the road.

the story says it rolled the jeep? wouldn't running over a deer at 70mph flip or roll your jeep more easily with a stinger? it would keep the deer from coming in the windshield but thats not what happened according to this story? the logic of the stinger in this case does not add up
i hit a deer at 65 or so she was a good sized doe and without my lift, the stock jk is high enough that it hit her back/side. she was pushed to the ground and didn't touch the hood. this one caused 4200 worth of front end parts but the jeep took the hit well.
id say a stinger would keep a deer from coming up but if you buy a stub bumper and it has a stinger it only protects you if you hit a deer head on centered it could still allow the deer to take out the front fender and launch up

Here in N.E. Indiana, folks are hitting deer all the time!!!!
No two hits are the same.... lots of variables,,, i.e. speed, lift height, running deer, jumping deer, t-bone deer, hit deer in the ass, big deer, little deer, etc... etc...
Having a stinger won't help or hinder you in a jeep/deer collision... Just too many things could happen when you hit something like a deer...
I have to agree that having a stinger would more times than not, push the deer under the jeep and may cause you to go out of control.
If I had a choice, which no one does,,, I would rather have a regular steel bumper on and possibly "push" the deer out of the way rather than under my jeep......
If you want a stinger on you're jeep, get one, just don't do it for this reason only......
