Default Superwinch LP10000 / Rugged Ridge XHD Bumper

Still researching winches now that my front bumper is on. In one of my previous posts regarding opinions on winches, Superwinch was another name that came up pretty frequently. I know a lot of people are running the epi9.0 and ep9.0 models. While checking on some prices, I came across the LP10000 [Superwinch 1510200]. Tried searching to see if anyone had any experience with this particular model but so far, really haven't had much success. Hoping someone might be able to shed some light.

Another question regarding the Superwinch winches - when reading some posts from members, it appears that many people had issues fitting the Superwinch in the Rugged Ridge XHD Bumper and needed to either trim the opening and/or re-drill the bolt holes. However, the posts on this issue I found were from 2008 - do the current Rugged Ridge XHD Bumpers and Superwinch winches still have this issue?

Anyone? Surely someone has or knows someone that knows someone that has used this winch?

I don't have any experience with this particular winch, but there are fitment issues with Superwinch and XHD bumpers. It's got to do with the clutch side of the winch being longer than other winches. I was going to get a superwinch until I figured out I was going to have to drill different holes or trim one side of the bumper to get it to fit. If you drill different holes and shift the winch over, then the winch isn't centered up to the fairlead hole in the bumper. I know some feel it's not a big deal to do either, but I decided to go with a different winch.

I'm probably one of those that posted on this topic in 2008. Even if RR has not re-positioned the winch mounting holes it's really not a big deal to drill new mounting holes in the XHD bumper using the provided template. I have had no issues running my Superwinch on my XHD bumper. I would contact Rugged Ridge (OMIX) directly and ask them the question. They were very responsive when I was working with them on this a few years ago. But again... I wouldn't let it stop you from getting this combo even if nothing has changed.

The reason I was considering this particular model was due to the fact that it is a 10,000lb winch, and from what I've read - on the forum as well as several other independent reviews [including Moabjeeper Winches in Hell] - these are some pretty good winches. And I have an opportunity to pick this particular one up for around $470.00 brand new. But my worry is exactly the same as yours - I hate to have to modify a nicely finished product to make something work and then it not look good or feel like it's not centered.

I think you're right . I wasn't sure if there'd been any changes in the last couple of years. Looks like there are a lot more people with Superwinch winches and seeing as the XHD is a pretty popular bumper, I figured that maybe they might've resolved this issue . Thanks for the input though - I sent them an email; will wait to see what they say. My problem is that not having the right tools, if I start trimming up the bumper to make something work, it'll probably end up looking real shoddy and I'm kinda OCD on things looking right . Plus, while this particular winch offers me a great amount of value for what I can buy it for, there are a couple of other winches I could go with as well.

I think the dimensions of this winch is similar to the epi9... How much did you have to trim? What tools did you use? Still not sure if I want to go that route, but I figured I'll gather every bit of info I can before I decide one way or another.

Again, thanks for all the input guys! It definitely helps. This is exactly what I love about this community - you get to see different perspectives and look at all angles before making a decision

Talked to Richard @ Omix-Ada. Looks like the XHD Bumpers were re-designed about a year back and should now fit the Superwinch winches just fine. He said that the owner of Tellico4x4 is running a Superwinch in the same bumper with no problem. So.......... I guess I can go ahead and give it a shot. Will post what I find out soon enough. Thanks for all the responses guys!

I'm pretty sure I havethe redesigned one, got it may of last year and I think the way to tell the difference is the older one has a rr sticker and the newer one the rr logo is stamped

Here's a picture of mine - the RR Logo is actually cut out in the bumper. Did yours look the same? Also, the opening on this bumper where the winch would sit looks pretty large - I can actually see part of the frame mounting bracket through the opening.

PS: Ignore the bug carnage - haven't had a chance to clean up since a loooooong drive to a state park this Sunday
