Default Scrutinize my plan. Step 1: Which Gears?

I'm looking into......

1: A new lift - TF 4in full flex arm
2: Driveshafts
3: Gears - Would like 5.38
4: 37s

All these are cause and effect...I need to driveshafts because of the increase in lift....etc. So can you guys school me on a few things. I have a 2008 4-dr X, Auto with 3.73. D44 in rear and D30 up front.....SO I would like to go to 37s but I've been reading that 37s and the D30 don't get along, but then I read that you can do it with reinforcement. Can I fit 5.38s in a D30?

Second, Any other suggestions for other items I should add to my build as far as suspension and drivetrain? As far as intended use...this is my DD and weekend wheeler. I've done everything from mud and muck to rock crawler and such. I looking for a wheel rounder wheeler.

THANKS

5.13's are the lowest you can go since you have a D30 up front. You can weld in C gussets, and add sleeves and shafts to beef it up.

I thought about that....two dumb questions.....

Do you reinforce just the front or both axels?

I don't suppose you could put 5.13s up front and 5.38s in the rear?

you have to run the same gears front and rear.

I would reinforce the front with chromolys and gussets

By the time you sleeve, gusset, ARB, regear, and do chromoly shafts to your Dana 30, the price isn't that much different to not justify the the ProRock route.
If you were in my position, you couldn't afford to get a PR44. I'm not so sure I would get much for my abused D30 anyway.

Great link, Thanks

For the time being, it looks like I'll need to stick with my axles and settle for 35s. I think I would still like to regear but don't want to kill MPG (that's another thread).

I also still plan to get more lift and would like better wheel travel. I've read the biggest limiter on articulation is the shocks....So this may be another dumb question but I gotta ask......Can you install a shock that is longer than your lift?

Example: Could a TF 6in shock be installed on a 4in or shorter lift to increase wheel travel?

Offroad shocks, like ones from evo, northridge, teraflex ect are made to give you as much flex as possible for the valving and the hight. say you run a shock that if made for a 6 inch lifted jeep when you have a 4 inch lifted jeep. that shock, when you are not flexing, will be sitting partly compressed past where it should be for everyday driving, and will eventually blow. If you are really looking for as much flex as possible, go with some good long travel shocks, you will flex like a beast

On the top, yet most expensive would be the fox piggy back shocks from evo offroad. If not those, then i recomend the OME black long travels. just make sure you pick up some front extended brake lines to account for the massive ammounts of flex haha. i am not sure if you need them for the back.

Others ad in about the rear brake lines, i think you can just unhook them from a mount for more flex

I'm liking the OME but I need to look around......AS for the brake lines....I was going to get some nicer extentions no matter which route I go. That's the last thing I want is to be decending a rock face and loss my brakes cuz the lines pulled out .....I've seen it happen.
