Default My LOD tire carrier=Better eat your wheaties !!!

Six months ago I pulled the trigger on a much needed tire carrier. I choose the LOD full length rear tire carrier with the trail rack. I installed the bumper myself and I used the white grease suggested in the instructions. With that said I have a time opening the carrier sometimes. My question being do i have something too tight or does it need more grease? I have tried adding grease to the fitting. No dice. Also what have ya'll out there used for the stop pin (other than vise grips).
Thanks ,

my carrier is the same now. I was fine at the beginning. I applied white lithium grease by hand during installation. now it is very tough to move. I tried a spray in white lithium grease and has not gotten any better.

There was a thread recently about this .

I would suggest filling it with grease until the gun stops and then Swingingit open and closed numerous times and try to put more grease in .

Ya i tried that. I'm thinking of trying another grease and a proper grease gun. Maybe the aerosol lithium grease isn't a good option...

Aerosol lithium grease will not cut it....get the lithium tubed grease and proper gun. I have had no issues with my swing gate as I usually pump the swing gate with a grease gun every month.

X2 I do this every so often and my LOD tire carrier has been nice and smooth. I use a synthetic grease too.

Anyone notice that the bumper flexes when the tire carrier opens and closes? I was recently at a Jeep show and me and another forum member who was considering buying one of these were checking it out. The entire bumper would flex whenever the tire carrier moved up or down a little bit while open. Even when he was testing out just swinging it open and closed, it flexed a little. I don't know if it was just this one bumper or if it happens but I was curious. He was pretty much dead set on that rear until we noticed this. Anyone that has it, open the tire carrier and move it up or down a little bit to see if it flexes.

If you get any dirt over time down in the grease it will make the grease harden up and make it hard to open. You need to remove the tire carrier and clean the hardened grease off the bushings, lube it back up and put it back on. This will solve the problem. Give us a call with questions.

If all bolts are installed as they should the bumper will not move. Some people try to skip on the bolts you have to drill for that go all the way through the frame which add a lot of strength. The hinge pin is welded directly to the frame mount so if someone decides they don't need all of the bolts for the frame mount then it defeats the purpose of our design.
