Light guards - Light Safety, or Future Body Damage?
I wish I posted this with my headlight guard post yesterday, I don't mean to clutter the forum...
I have a hairline crack in the side of my tallight from contact with a tree from last year, and water leaks into the taillight, which killed my reverse light. I now wonder if a taillight guard might have saved it.
I also wonder if a taillight guard means that it will either do damage to the body (if mounted to the body itself), or simply tear off the entire light housing (light mounted), rather than letting it just smash and replacing the light later.
Any thoughts?

It depends on the make of the guard. I have a set of RR rear light guards and they seem to be made of solid iron. I can't even bend them at all. If it was a light impact, it would have saved them... yes.
Of the different taillight guards out there, which ones would be safest (in terms of NOT mounting to the body)?
Trying to figure out a way to limit damage to the lights without endangering my corner panels (aside from getting AEV corners and LED lights flush with the tub)
