How do I know what gears I have?
So I bought my jeep used from Carmax in January and it was (I thought), a completely stock X. I just recently put the TF 2.5" coils and shocks lift on it with some 35" KM2s. I used the flashpaq to redo the speedo and I am registering 40 mph when my GPS says 50 mph now. My thought is the last owner changed the gears from the stock setup?
Is there any way I can figure out what is in there or am I barking up the wrong tree?

call the dealer with the vin# and find out the stock gears.
then set your speedo with the stock gears and the actual tire height measurement. If you dont measure the tires and use the sidewall measurement it'll definetely be off

well, without having to pull anything apart, you could always mark your rear drive shaft and one of your rear tires, have someone slowly roll your jeep forward and count how many complete revolutions your drive shaft makes for one revolution of your tire. if it's just a bit more than 3, you probably have 3.21 gears, if it's almost 4, you probably have 3.73's, if it's a bit more than 4, you probably have 4.10's, if it's almost 5, you have 4.88's and if you have a bit more than 5, you probably have 5.13.
WOL, I always had trouble wrapping my head around the way the gear number associated with, well, whatever... until that explanation. I now feel a bit more enlighetened. Thanks! I now have a project for tonight.
