Default New & Novice Rubicon Owner Seeks Insight from Experienced Handlers

`09 2DR Rubicon, researching lifts, wheels and tires. Want to do it right but I am not quite sure how.

Looking at 2-3" lift (not BB) and ~35" KM2 with MT Classic II (black). Aesthetically appealing at this stage but from reading posts on this site as well as discussing with local 4WD sales reps., I am getting conflicting and perhaps biased support. I am told that 2.5" is borderline for install of new drive shaft (~20k miles later).

Hoping that some of you would enlighten me in terms of what type lift.

Much appreciated,

cjk09

First off, let me say WELCOME to the JK Forum!!!! You have entered a world of good honest opinions, lots of knowledge, LOTS of b.s.!! and just plain old good clean fun!!!!

If you cruise around here on the forum, you will find a heavy push towards Teraflex lift kits and parts.. They make some real good stuff, heavy duty, and complete...
But there are TONS of other good and not so good choices out there too, do yourself a favor and read, read, read and get a feel for what sounds good to you...

I myself have a '08 2dr. rubicon with a 3" "Franken Lift".... meaning, I have parts from different manufacturers on my jeep.... I did this because I liked components from these different companies better than all the parts from just one.....

Running a 3" lift with 35" tires is a good place to start, not too tall to have to do much else (drive shafts) and such, good center of gravity, and VERY capable at just about everything you will want to do......
I would suggest a complete kit of some kind that includes the control arms in the kit..
you don't need a long arm kit but a good set of control arms are nice to have (at least front lowers and rear uppers).

You will find out in a real hurry that the 3.8L V-6 is a real DOG!!! you may want to look at gears soon, maybe not right away but soon... You're drive shafts should be ok until you kill the rubber boot, then you will want to consider a front drive shaft, but the stock one will do for quite a while... maybe for ever if you don't over flex and kill it.....

There is tons of info on this forum, don't just listen to me... I am but one person and one opinion... You will get so much info you will think you are running in circles!!!!

Just remember, there are always more than one way to skin the cat! everybody has a different way to mod their Jeep... Make it yours and be happy with it....

Good luck and Welcome!!!!!
