Lengthy title. Sorry. I'm about to order an AEV snorkel but can't decide between the ram air or the prefilter. I think the ram air is a safe bet as it looks pretty normal but I like the idea of the prefilter because I explore a lot of dusty forest service roads up North here. I've read alot of people describing the prefilter as looking like a "fish bowl".

My concern is that the prefilter may look disproportionate to the rest of my JK, considering I have a shorty front bumper. I've used the search function and found lots of pics of both snorkel heads but not many pics with shorty front bumpers.

I ordered my AEV snorkel with the prefilter (see the pics below). This lasted for about a month, until it was busted (more than likely by a rock or something similar hitting in while I was driving). I have since switched to the Ram Air and haven't had any major problems. I've knocked it off on the trail a few times, but I just popped it back up on there and re-tightened it and was good to go. I think the prefilter looks fine, it's durability was my main concern. I hope this helps you make your decision.

 

Not sure how difficult it is to switch them around so buy both and switch them off when wheeling.
