Default Need some gearheads advice....will this set up work?

Proposed scenario (upgrading from stock 18 wheels/tires):

18x9 procomp wheel with 5" backspacing

&

275/65/18 tire with rim widths of 7.0-8.5

Any thoughts?

Tire sidewalls might be a little susceptible to punctures since it will be on a wider rim than it was designed for.

Have you looked at the Wheels & tires section of the FAQ's?

Are you trying to keep fender coverage?

Do you have any intention of moving to a larger tire at some point?

I have looked at the wheels and tires section, and I would like to keep fender coverage. I have no intention of going bigger - I live in a city and park on a street - so I can't go rolling around on 35s.

I was concerned with the compatibility of the 18x9 wheels and the tires manufacture's stated rim width of 7.0-8.5"

I would consider going 4.5 inch back spacing. That will ensure you won't have problems if you go a little bigger.

He's back East, they have those wonderful tire coverage laws. A 5 BS will be fine with that size tire.

For the rim width, as long as you can find a shop that is willing to mount them, you'll be ok. My opinion, since you have no desire to go to a bigger tire, you might want to drop down to an 8" width though.
