Default ok it's my turn for death wobble.

ok it's my turn for death wobble.

couple obsevations:

when you have it you know it.

it scared the crap out of me. it is truly the most scared i have ever been in any vehicle.

lucky for me i was under acceleration and only going about 35. for those of you going faster i can only imagine what it felt like. it took me about 100 yards to get stopped.

i pulled over and nothing is broke. i have about 8k miles since i lifted it. the front end has always had a slight shimmy, and pulled slightly to the right. even new.

some factors to consider:

i have not rotated the 37" tires.

i have never rechecked torque on anything.

my steering column just started clunking a few days ago.

two days ago i released the nitrogen charge on my fox SS.

so i am going to go through all the steps outlined in the first two posts of this thread....https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...72#post1765472. i will post anything wrong that i find (and i will find it).

i won't ever be lazy again with this front end. i can't believe some of you guys that were on the freeway didn't crash.

wish me luck

i am going to be tearing this apart this afternoon.

another odd thing about this front end is:

the swaybar is very close to the coils on the passenger side. but not on the drivers side. the control arms are the same length and the front axle is centered.

any ideas?

Maybe it happened because of the DW.

Let us know what you find when you check everything.

Maybe even take pictures of what is either loose, damaged, or broken that caused the DW.
i will take pics and post the story as i go here (i won't drive it till i find it). thank you for all the info in your thread it really has a load of good info.

when you got the lift did you remove the factory steering stabilizer and repalce it with a bigger aftermarket, if not thats what is causing it the factory one cant handle the 37s. i have 35s and only have 14k miles and hade to get another put on at the dealer, they did it under warrenty.

i had my son steer back and forth while i was underneath. track bar is moving lateraly at the frame mount a little. but not the bolt.

there seemed to be a bit of lateral play at both ends of the drag link (especially at the pitman).

tie rod ends and adjustment threads looked good

jacked up the jeep very little play in the ball joints when pushing in and pulling out.

very little play when i pryed up on the tire..

i am going to to go R&I the track bar.

as for the drag link would it be advisable to tighten the the castle nuts on each end of the drag link?

if i do is there a torque value?

From what you said, there is a problem with either the bushing, bracket, bracket holes, or bolt at the frame side of the trackbar.

Use a breaker bar or your torque wrench on the highest setting for leverage to loosen and remove the bolts to the trackbar so you can inspect the bushings and the bolt holes.
i took the track bar off. it is a second gen teraflex hd with about 8k miles. the bushing looks like new. no tears or fractures in the rubber. the bolt holes are perfect. i reinstalled it and tightened it really, really tight. (long 1/2" breaker bar). i will put a big torque wrench on it in the morning at my shop. (if i make it)

there is still movement. it is defiantly from the rubber bushing. nothing else is moving. it seems to be a normal amount of movement for a rubber bushing.

all the control arms were tight. i loosened them bounced the front end and re-tightened.

all torque specs below 80 ft lbs were torqued with a torque wrench according to the specs.

i will re- check all the 125 ft lbs tomorrow.

the only thing loose was the drag link at the knuckle. i torqued it.

tires are at 30 psi.

i am going to test drive right now in hopes of getting it to my shop where i have a rack so i can get serious with this thing.
