Default Spare tire carrier with stock rims

Just got some GY Duratrac 315/70/17s mounted on the stock 17 inch X rims. If my research was right, the tire weighs 60 lbs. and the stock rim is about 25 lbs. for a total of 85 lbs. (give or take). I'd like to hear some opinions on a good economical way to mount the spare tire on the rear without dropping a load of cash. Tried searching in vain. Does anyone have any experience with a similar setup? Any cheap mods?

sorry man, don't know of a cheap fix. I have the same tires on different wheels, but went with the aftermarket tire carrier/ rear bumper.

Was hoping to avoid that expense. Right now its in the back with the rear seat up. May end up leaving it that way for awhile since I hardly have any back seat passengers.

I have the same tires on the stock rims. Here's what I did.

Buy the Teraflex spare tire extension and the Daystar extended tailgate bumpstops. Don't cut the bumpstops (like the instructions say) and wedge them in as tight as you can. Mine's been running for 8 months without a rattle.

Here are the links. Use your favorite vendor,

$45 solution. Good luck.

I wouldnt use the stock carrier. I have stock 31" hanging from it and just finished rotating the tires. When I pulled the stock spare off, the two upper bolts holding the tire were extremely loose. After further looking, there is a single plastic pin that holds the two upper threads. The entire weight of the tire is held by the single bottom thread.
Not a very good design for that amount of weight.

Just wondering if you had any luck with this setup....I'm looking at mounting 35x12.5x17 Duratrac's on aluminum rims - 86lbs total in my case. As I understand it, the stock Rubi setup weighs in at 75lbs (49lbs tire, 26lbs rim), if I'm wrong or the Rubi has a different carrier than the Sahara, please correct me. Since the Duratrac's are so light - this only makes an 11lb difference.

I'm having a real tough time coming up with $1500 for a tire carrier over 11lbs. I know there are cheaper bumper/carrier options, but if I need to go that route I want one that opens with the gate as I use the 'trunk' a lot. I know a lot of people have had issues with 35's on the stock carrier, but I've also seen 35" wheel/tire combinations that top 100lbs.

Anyone that is running the Duratrac on the stock carrier, can you please comment if you've had issues, or not?

Steve.
