Question Aem brute force intake?

Ive read that it is easier to hydrolock if you have one of these on. Should I be worried about this only in water crossings or does this apply for daily driving as well? Also if you are running one of these, how do you like it?

That was the first mod I did. I never did any water crossings but I do run full blast through any standing water in the road or parking lots. Never had any problems. It gives it a deep sound when I stomp it down with some more power. I don't have a dyno in the garage but it does have more get up and go than it did before. I don't pay much attention to gas mileage so I don't know about that. I had one on my Cherokee and I loved it so I bought one for my JK.

I must agree with 'Bob' the AEM was also my first mod and really like it, since then I have added a Magnaflow cat-back exhaust and programmed with a Superchips - that really woke up the engine and gained a little MPG. No hydro-lock problems, but I have only been thru water to my bumper.

Any CAI has a greater chance of hydrolocking vs Stock air box. You can get a pre-filter which will help with filtering out finer Silt dust to reduce the cleaning intervals. Also, the pre-filter is water-repellent (not-proof) and will help with some of the splashing. The CAI sound is sweet.

I did dumped my AirRaid CAI for a AEV snorkel as I had a few close calls crossing rivers where it was deeper than I expected. I do miss the CAI sound...

I have to disagree. I had it and hydrolocked going through 1' of water. I wasn't even blasting through!
