Default 285/70r17 Duratac user help please

I've had my wrangler a little over a year and a half and Im starting to get the itch to move up to a 33" tire and get the teraflex leveling kit (something thats easy to take off when I take it into the dealership so it won't void my lifetime warranty ) . Mine came with the 255s and rubi wheels. Now where I get confused is that everyone says that the 255/75 is a 32" tire when it only measures about 30.5 . Is the 33 measurement before the tire is mounted and inflated?

Also could I get someone thats running the 285/70r17 duratrac (with stock 17 wheels if possible) take a photo with a tape measure from the ground to the top of the tire like I've taken.....Pretty please.....maybe with a little sugar on top

Default tire measurement

The diameter is measured based on the mounted and inflated diameter on a specified width rim according to the manufacturer's respective site. Measuring while under the weight of the vehicle will result in a smaller diameter.

My spare has never been used and almost the same measurement (30.5") as the tires underneath the jeep.

Goodyear has dimensions on their website. They may not be perfect but close.

They say mine (255/75) is 32.1" but it actually measures around 1.5 to 2" smaller....Mabe its the same with the 285/70 and it actually measures 31-32"? You'd think that a 32" tire would be 32 and the same for a 33". this is getting confusing.

Tire diameter is defined as measured uninstalled....

I have a set of 285/70-17 Maxx Traction Dunlops sitting in my garage, not yet mounted on wheels. If I roll one out and stand it up next to the 285/70-17s currently on my JK, they stand more than an inch taller.

In other words, it's normal. Don't worry about it.

I have the same Duratrac tire set up you are considering on stock rims and the Tereflex leveling kit. I'll try to post some pics, but when I measured the tire it was between 32 and 32 1/4. I'm not sure what your concern is exactly with the tire measurement. There is a slight rub on the swaybar at full lock. I just popped a washer (or two) under each steering stop and cured that issue.

Its not really a consern. I just took out a tape measure to see how a 33 would look. I was suprised when my 32s were actually 30s

So its about a 2inch difference. Another question if you dont mind, how far out does your tires stick out past the fender?

I would really appreciate the pic, thanks

They don't stick out at all, I'd say they are just under to about a 1/4 inch under. Duratracs really change the look of the jeep, to actually look like a Jeep!
