Default 4 dr to 2 dr - who has switched?

Ok i am seriously in my mind missing the short wheel base of a 2 door now that im on my second 4 door... so im considering swapping out for a 2 door 2010 while the deals are good...

trades are good on 4 doors and 2 doors are being discounted pretty decently right now...

who has made the switch? are there caveats to it? im not worried about the diminished space.. I bought my 4 dr thinking i would haul stuff in it and i never do..

I will treat the 2 door like I did my TJ's as a 2 seater.. and the backseat will be out of the jeep most all the time...

so im looking for people who have gone from the unlimited back to a 2 dr JK....

did you like the switch?> would you do it again?

im also looking to go from a stick over to an automatic as well.. who has made this switch from stick to auto and would you do that again?

my JK is the daily driver so im not thinking about questions related to storage on wheeling trips etc.. mainly just things about ride, nimbleness on the trails, stability in rain / snow, power versus the 4 door.... ease of putting the top up and down compared to the 4 door, etc...

My cousin has a 95 (YJ?) jeep and is thinking about trading for a 4-door so me and him switched for the weekend. The wrangler unlimited is my first jeep but after driving his, I personally wouldnt have a 2 door. His top makes more noise than I could've imagine. When we traded we had a bad winter storm. MHO the long wheel base does alot better in the snow, fresh and packed.

I had a 2 door tracker convertible before my Unlimited.....4-door all the way, even if you dont use the space

Edit: His was a manual and mines an auto. With as much driving as I do, I recommend the auto because its my DD. Also Im running stock so that plays a big difference. I guess if I wanted to run bigger tires I would go with a manual.

is the automatic really that bad? the last Jeep I had wit han auto was my 02 TJ and it was only a 3 speed with 3.07 gears.. no over drive.. i didnt like that one.. I thought the 42RLE was a better trans?

I really like driving a stick better but my chirppractor is telling me i either have to drive with my seat way up on the dash or get an auto because I strewtch too much to push the clutch...

a YJ to a JK is like night and day.. the top and such was terrible on those.. along with 4 leak springs.. I also run bone stock on my jeeps too...

I replaced my 07 2dr. with an 09 last year.
2 months ago I traded in the Ford car and bought another 2 dr (08 X) I 2 missed the small size and manuverability that a 2 dr offers.

So no your not out of your mind.

When the situation permits, I'll probably switch from a 4dr to a 2dr. Currently need the body space. Hopefully when that time comes around, it'll be a manual. Driving an auto right now, don't know how to drive stick.

I guess coming from 4 TJ's the look of a 2 door was what a jeep was.. dont get me wrong I really enjoy my 4 door.. and of course it gets lots of looks with all 4 doors off... im just kind of missing the shorter wheelbase..

I have no plans to lift it so thats not really an issue...

there is something nice looking about a lifted 4 door with 37's on it though!

never could I go to a 2dr.....no space...yes shorter wheel base, but I honestly believe that the 4 dr has allot of advantages off road over the 2 dr.......both have there strong points in various terrain, but to me the 4dr still is better....

IMO The 4dr's ride on and off road way better.....
