5.13 or 5.38's for auto 4 door with 35's
Hi,
I'm ready to get gears, but am a little confused with the gears I need. I looked at the FAQ and searched, and that helped a little. But I need actual driver input, I'm sure there will be some flaming and scientific evidence. But would rather hear from actual people running them.
I live at about 5300 ft. elev. if that matters. And am running 35 BFG, 16x8 wheels.
Thanks

I don't have any driving experience with 5.13's or 5.38's and this is not intended to flame only to help inform.
From what I found from people who i know who have 5.13's. They say they want 5.38's. Also it makes a difference if it's a Rubicon or not. The best thing you can do is find someone with both of these setups and test drive them. That's the only advise i can give.
This has been discussed over and over on here so you will always be able to find something when you use the search button. The people on here are giving actual advise. It's not made up.

I've got the 4-door w/Auto...Rubi pkg. and running 5.13's with 35" BFG KM2.
It's still a little steep (2600 RPM @70MPH). I went with 5.13's knowing that in another year or so I'll move up to 37" tires....and then it will be better. I personally think 5.38's are too steep unless you're going to run 37" tires now. Mine is also my daily driver, so I wanted to keep the gas mileage in check.
Hope this helps.

It is a Rubicon. Daily driver, moderate offroad.
I have heard or read both, that the 5.13 is just fine, but another say "that they got better gas mileage moving from 5.13s to 5.38s". Just want to get it clear, before making the jump. Thanks again

Keep in mind, 35" BFG's are about 33"s tall.
I have 5:13's, and I ran 35 toyo's for 30,000 miles, and Goodyear's for over 30,000 miles.
Both of those brands run closer to the true size, and I wish I had gone with the 5:38's

I'm another one that went with 513s on 34"MTRs in an Unlimited Rubi and completely satisfied with them. My mpgs dropped from 16.5 to 15 when I regeared to 513s and would have been worse with 538s which I don't need for performance. 2250 rpm at 65 mph is a good balance.
