Just wanting a little bigger more agressive tire like a duratrac tire. I have 225 75 16 now. I would like to keep the power that I have considering 6 speed and 3.21 gears but still wand a more trail friendly tire. Would It be worth it.

 

Will I be able to hit some trails with 31" tires.

 

I hit the trails in my 09 with the stock 225's and had a great time

The 245's will give you a 1.18" bump in diameter (0.59" of overall lift height) and you'll still have good road manners as far as power goes.

 

i went with the same size 225 and they look great and cheaper.they are on sale right now at sears. 245 will look even better.

 

I would go straight to the 265/75R16.

One of the big problems with 225 tires is that you can't really air them down at all. When you do, the tire isn't wide enough to protect the edge of the rim. Once you get off road, your wheels will take a beating. I bent the shit out of one of my rims, and the edges on all of them got really toe up. Jumping to the 265 will give you a little more height, protect your rims, allow you to air down, give you better traction, and shouldn't cause any rubbing issues.

The only downside is that 6th gear gets pretty much useless. I'm running a set of 255/75R17 KM's on mine, which is also a 6-sp with 3.21's. I now drive it like a 5-speed and just forget 6th ever existed. In 5th, I'm running about 23000-2400 RPM at 70mph. I feel that is about perfect for the type of daily driving I do. My mileage did drop a little too. I went from a consitant 20-21mpg down to 18.5-19.5mpg. I blame that more on the Mud Terrains more than the tire size.

 

I went with 265/75-16's. It was as usable as the 29's were with the 3.21's, but keep in mind it is about a 10-percent increase in diameter so highway "power" will be reduced and your speedo will be off by quite a little bit. Offroad in 4L was fine.

I found a deal on an AEV Procal to correct the speedo. And I never liked the high gearing so when a set of 5.13's popped up on the For Sale board here, I bought them. I love those gears! Anyway, here's a pic of my Jeep with the 265's (31.5" on the ground, BTW, with street pressure):

I agree. 265/75/16. That's what I did. Dropped the 225's with in the first month. Discount Tire paid me something for em, don't remember how much. Honestly a year later I want atleast 285/75/16 but I don't think the stock rims will hold it well. Getting new rims Tuesday, if I'm in the right mood might get the bigger tires.

 

I bought my Jeep in February, put 265's on it in March at 500 miles. Just turned over 3000 miles and I'm looking at Swampers.

Holy shit. You are running 5.13's with a 6-speed on a 32" tire? I'm guessing you don't get out on the highway much? What is your gas mileage like?

 

I don't really drive it on the Interstate, but on 2-lanes 55-60ish MPH it's fine. If a long Interstate trip is planned, I'll take my truck or a motorcycle.

According to The Chart, 70 MPH w/ 32's is only 3169 RPM. That's not really ridiculous for our little engines.

I don't check my mileage, but for the type of driving I do, I doubt that it's any different from stock.
