Wheels with 5.00 backspace and 12.5 wide tires?
Hey fellas, Im a few weeks away from picking up a new set of wheels and tires. Im looking at a few wheels but my first choice only has 5.00 BS. The tires im looking at have a cross section of 12.25. How can i get my BS set so there is little rub without adding a full 1.5 inch spacer? I dont want to use a thinner sandwich spacer as I have concerns regarding the safety of them.
Does anyone make thinner wheel spacers with studs on then where i could trim off my existing wheels studs?
What do you guys think?

First, if I am buying any new wheels, the first thing I am going to do is make sure I don't need spacers to make them work. I wouldn't be opposed to buying spacers for stock wheels or wheels that I found on someone's tree lawn, but I'm not going to enter in to a new set of wheels that I'm spending dollars on that aren't functional without spacers.
Second, we all know how this game goes. If I want 33s or 35s today I am probably going to want 37s or 40s next time through. If I compromised my wheel purchase on the first go round, it becomes a bigger compromise in the future. Lots of people running spacers here and I have nothing against them but I'll leave my compromise fixes for things that I don't have an easy map to get to an appropriate solution.
Lastly, throw up a picture of the wheels you are interested in and I'm sure someone will be able to come up with something very similar in a suitable size. Plenty of wheels out there that are going to provide all the function and fit you need while being just as stylish as getting the wrong set of wheels.
I'm running the Black Rock dunes in a 16x8 with 5" of backspacing, 315/75/16 Duratracs, and have ZERO rubbing also. If you math it out, the stock tire is 10 inches wide, on a stock rim that has 6.25" of backspacing. If you move up to a tire that is 12.5" wide (+/- a few tenths), that puts an extra 1.25" of tire on each side of the wheel. So in order to put the inside part of the tire back where the stocker was, you need to accommodate for that extra 1.25", or a 5" backspaced rim. Regardless of the width of the rim, the backspacing measurement will remain the same, since it is measured from the mounting surface of the wheel. The wider you go, the further out the wheel/tire will stick from the fenders. Also, the wider you go with the wheel, the wider the tire will measure....and the narrower the wheel, the slightly narrower but taller the tire will measure.
From experience, this will work on a 35" tire....going up from there you might have slight issues going from lock-to-lock, due to the extra height. The consensus is about 4.5", but I wanted the 5" backspace for the extra tire coverage by the fender.
