Default Rancho 4" Sport VS Teraflex 2.5 Coil Lift

Guys after much research and pounding my head on the computer desk I am turning to the experts (you guys) to give me some advice. What would you guys consider the pros and cons of each lift? This is going on my daily driver for now. It is an auto X with the 3:73 gears. I know that Teraflex has an excellent rep on here but that deal that Rancho is offering up is pretty tempting. Give me your thoughts and recommendations please. Thanks for your time and advice.

Thanks! I would check with the TeraFlex vendors here for deal on a kit. I believe that you will find that TeraFlex product has incredible reputation here. Feel free to give me a call if you have questions.

i have the terraflex 2.5 coil kit on my stock rubicon and love it. its just high enough for me and the part's quality is very good. rides just a bit stiffer than stock, hardly noticable. Great kit! easy to install!!!

There are a few newer threads on the rancho 4" kit, you'll probably get some better feedback there.

But, my concern and/or hesitation with that rancho sport kit is all of the brackets. Yes, they lower the cost, but it just seems like a control arm lowering bracket is going to add a lot of extra leverage and ... snap. Could be that they are strong and I'm way off base, but I personally prefer adjustables for the control arms and trackbars. Gives the ability to fine tune for all the added weight of bumpers/winches/armor, or if I want to add coil spacers, or whatever. If budget is a concern, start basic and add components as you go...

I've got the Rancho kit and I'm very happy. I doubt I would have paid $1044 for it but $644 is a good value in my opinion. In fact, I'm pretty certain I would not have paid $1044 for it. The 9000 shocks are top notch. The front suspension geometry seems to be well thought out for a DD/trail riding rig. They advertise 1" additional flex over stock. I know most higher end kits will give you more flex but it all depends on what is important to you and how you use your Jeep.

I ride trails to go hunting. There is not much flexing going on unless you happen upon a log or something. I have to cross sloughs and that is my limiting factor. I got the Jeep 5.5"+ higher with the lift and tires and that was what I was looking for.

Good luck, in the end you will have a fine product for a good value either way.

I have the tereflex 2.5 spring lift but upgraded to skyjacker shocks at the same time......

it works great....huge difference ofer stock jeeps (appearance) and works well on the trail..

I heard or read that over 3.5 you develop driveshaft issues among other things...

The kit took a while to install....and you might want to rent a spring compresser...but other than that i would go for the 2.5...

Also, unless ur putting 40's on it.. any tire will look small...lol

I had the same concern as you did, thats why I have an adjustable trackbar with my rancho 4" kit. I'm not worried about the control arm drop brackets one bit, the welds on the control arm mounts are 10x stronger than the track bar welds. I've slid my jeeps control arm mounts across rocks without any problems.

The 3 things that sold me on the rancho kit are 1) 4 doors w/ 35's look absolutely perfect with 4" of lift and there is NO rubbing at full flex 2) Rancho's kit includes drop brackets for the control arms to get my by until I get adjustable control arms or long arms installed 3) the rebate makes this kit an incredible value.

If the teraflex kit had adjustable control arms and an adjustable track bar included, it would be a complete kit and I might have bought it instead of the rancho 4". I have a friend with the Teraflex 2.5" coil + shock lift and he loves it.

I dont think you can go wrong with either. Both Teraflex and Rancho make great products, have outstanding customer service, and are sponsors of jk-forum... its a win win.

I think he's got a 4 door, so he shouldnt have any issues w/ the driveshafts other than the front boot tearing at full flex with either kit if he drives an auto. If you disconnect your front sway bar as you should when you wheel it and you have any kit with longer shocks, you're going to tear your front drive shaft boot... simple as that.

My experiance with Teraflex. Their products are stronger than factory sway bar link mounts on the axle. They take care of their customers through their dealer network.
