Default Outrage...No Honesty in Jeep Sales?

I got a phone call last week from Bob and separately, from Dave (I'm going to call them 'the bobs.' Both, on separate occasions had said they were sales managers at the Massey Yardley Jeep Chrysler dealership in ft. Lauderdale.

The first phone call from the BOB's; "I've had that Mango Jeep on my lot for too long and I need to sell it, why don't you come back in and we'll make a deal." To which I said; "no offense, I understand you want me back in there but if I'm going to be charged 35,500 then there’s no reason for me to come in, I don't want to waste any ones time (I said this as politely as humanly possible)." Bob said; "I know you were thinking at or around 30k and we were at 35,500, so lets talk and I'll get you to where you want. So, I'm thinking 32-33k. This I was willing to do.

The second phone call from the BOB's. This was 2 weeks later. "I still have this jeep sitting on my lot and need it out of here." To which I stated, again, I don’t want to come in there and find that I'm being charged sticker price." He asked me what I wanted to pay, so I said "30k." He said; "well, if you'll eat the tax, then we can make a deal." So I told him I'd be in on Saturday morning.

Now, at this point I thought I found my Jeep- finally. I let myself get excited, as I was buying my first car (yes jeep, just sharing the concept). I told people, I'm going to have a jeep over the weekend. I saved up 15k to put down and I was ready to roll. So, my girlfriend comes in from out of town. Do you know why? Because we're going to go get it together.

Saturday morning comes around and we hop into my 2000 dodge intrepid (which I took great care of ;-) and drive to the dealership. there she was, sitting there (the rubi, not my gfriend). I walked in and shook some hands. they went to grab my file. they came back and said; "well, nothing has changed, we're still at this number '$36,765' ready to buy?" So I explained to them that I have been back in forth with not just one BOB, but two entirely separate and apart from each other BOBs and we came to a fair price at about $32k.

So, do you know what BOB #3 said to me (newly named first hand management named BOB for the sake of posterity)? "Well, I don't know who they were but this is the price. those Bobs are just a voice whose jobs are to get you back in here."

To which I asked; "SO YOUR TELLING ME THAT YOU PAY 2 SEPERATE PEOPLE TO CALL ME, AND ON BEHALF OF YOUR DEALERSHIP, LIE TO ME?"

To which he said; "YES"

So I walked out.....Car salesman continue to retain the title "Scum of the Earth"....no offense to the good ones out there.

Anyone know where I can get a mostly loaded 2010 Unlimited Rubicon for 32k

Shit experience. Great job on walking out of the trap.

I see that finding deals is a lot like finding good women.

if you look for it, your not going to find it.

patience

Man that sucks. I hate dealing with those scumbags too.

Are you opposed to buying a lightly used 2010 or 2009? You can likely find a really nice hardly used one in your price range, or likely even less.

Try finding an individual in your area that is selling one, that way you can avoid the whole stealership d-bags.

Good luck

I don't think all dealers are the same ...

I found my JK on my dealers website ... they were advertising it as an internet special $5K off sticker so price was $19,100. I drove to the dealership and asked to see the internet special. We went outside and asked if I wanted a test drive ... I said no I've driven them before. He said what can I do to make you buy this today? I said sell it to me for $19,100 ... he said OK lets go do the paperwork ....

If you lived in southern California, I would suggest Huntington Beach Jeep...they advertise about $4K off MSRP on brand new Rubicons (prices clearly shown on their website).

Also, the CarMax near the Los Angeles Airport (LAX) had some decent deals as well...no haggle pricing. Also to clarify, this CarMax is an official Chrysler/Jeep dealership, so they sell new Chrsyler/Jeep vehicles.

Perhaps you can use these prices as leverage with the stealerships in your area???

Also, try speaking with the Fleet manager as opposed to a normal salesperson...from what I understand, Fleet managers are compensated on volume (and have to manage the dealership's inventory)...so they are not as motivated to milk every single penny from you.

Good luck.

Ok. Just PO'd at the whole deal. I'm ready to purchase now. I decided against a used one (even slightly) because the prices were not that different. I wanted to start with my very own little baby- know what I mean?

I had a very similar experience. I worked with both the sales manager and a sales person and told both that I wanted a 2010 Sport Unlimited with Nav added for a specific monthly payment and term. They spent awhile "discussing" and offered me a fully loaded Sahara (sticker with added accessories was over 5k higher then the sport) for the same money. I asked for a copy of the deal to look at, they said they would email it to me...in the meantime "why dont you take this jeep overnight and see if you like it"

I come in the next day, and my trade is sitting there, washed, with stickers already in the window. I commented that it looks like we have a done deal huh? When I sit down, they roll the paperwork out in lightening speed for me to sign, payment is confirmed...then I look.....4 extra months tacked on to the term. Thats a big price difference!

They were visibly upset, and after an hour of waiting offered me the original deal but they were clearly not at all happy.

Good for you for standing up. Its amazing how shady the whole car buying experience is...why can't it be like a normal purchase with real numbers?

Agreed. It's a shame. I almost wish they weren't as popular as they are- realistic price.
