The door locks, are the last thing on my jeep that I haven't made black. And I think about it every time I get in it!
I've thought about maybe getting some satin black vinyl, and covering them with that.....

I did. Used some flat black latex paint. Has held up well had it done for about 6 mos. I need to smooth it out a little bit. Mine is Red Rock so the flat black looks fine, not competing with glossy black paint.

I did about a year and half ago. I just taped them off and sprayed them. Used newspaper to keep any overspray from getting on my paint They turned out great. roughed them up with steel wool, cleaned with alcohol, painted, and then cleared them.

Resurrecting this thread with a question for you guys who've painted your locks. How is the paint holding up a few years down the road? I'd like to black out mine, but I don't want to have to respray every other year.

I used plasti-dip and spent more time on the prep work than I did spraying it. After 4 light coats and 45 minutes drying between coats it looked awesome. Did it on all of them (driver/pass/tailgate) and it lasted approx 3 months. Wound up starting to wear off after a few months, peeled the remaining plasti-dip off and will go another route next spring.

thinking of removing the locks completly and sanding the chrome and using a better "paint".

I plasti-dipped my door hinges, door locks, trail rated badge, and cowl last year and mine have held up as if I just finished it yesterday. I did 6 coats on each.

I did mine with a dark carbon fiber print vinyl wrap material. (the kind they wrap vehicles with)

I got it off Ebay for a dollar. It was a sample 10" X 10".

A little heat, a little trim with an X-acto knife and Wah Lah.

I don't have pics right now, but it's weather proof and bullet proof (scratch resistant)
