Rubicon wants an "Oil Change"
Hello everyone
I know we have talked about this topic over and over, but I find this a little odd.
Bought my 2010 Rubicon new - drove it with the factory oil for the first 6000 miles - then I switched over to full-synthetic. This morning when I started her up - the little light is flashing "OIL CHANGE". I've only put 2500 miles
on her since the first oil change - and she is not burning any oil (knock on wood).
Now I know I can reset the light at anytime - but as a daily driver - I drive strictly interstate round-trip about 75 miles. Average speed 70 - 72 MPH so I do not consider this to be hard driving. And since I did switch to full-synthetic I had planned on changing the oil every 5k miles.
So, what do you think - just ignore the light and reset it. Wait til I hit the next 5k and change it then. Or go ahead and change it since I did switch over, just to make sure all the gunk is out of the motor.

All opinions welcome...

Ignore and reset. The light is triggered by a number of factors that are averaged to come up with the trigger for the light. (drive cycle, temps, engine load, milage, etc.). If you have a set oil change schedule, are concious of your driving condition and are faithfully sticking to it then you will know the condition of your oil better than the computer.

It did (does) that to mine as well. I use syn as well. So when it comes on, I check the oil to make sure color, smell and level is all good and reset. I don't drive it that much, trails and some weekend stuff. Little freeway, and it always comes up around 2500 after oil change. I am thinking that it just comes up 500 miles before the 3k mark. I don't know for sure, just seems that way to me.

I would have no idea then. I only have 1200 miles on mine and plan on doing my first change in a few hundred miles, I will be curious to see when my light comes on for the second change.
