Gobi Racks and kayaks
I have the recon stealth and two 10 foot kayaks...have not bought any yakima/thule kayak racks yet but have strapped the two boats to the rails with padding around the rails for the quick trip 2 min trip to round valley with no problem.
anything specific you would like to know?

yea i guess i didn't really ask anything...
I was just lookin for some feedback from some people that carry kayaks on the gobi racks. i have seen alot of reviews raving about the rack itself but have never seen anyone say that they have used it for kayaks. just looking for the good and bad. maybe some pics??? or maybe even another option...

The gobi rack has two round bars equivalent to yakima bars mounted above the sound bar and approx 10 inches from the rear of the rack.
The bars are set 41 inches apart...this was an in issue with my Thule cargo box as it did not adjust to 41 inches and I had to redrill and remount the clamps to fit the bars...
This was one of my complaints as well as the different (nylon nuts for the rack but not for the others) hardware used for mounting the fairing/ladder/and rack itself. Other than those two small complaints...the rack is solid and would definitly buy again if I had to do it all over.
As far as hauling the kayaks, with the fairing and secured properly to the rack the wind noise was minimal and they didn't budge. the rack is solid and wont budge (there is video of a guy jumping up and down on the mounted rack...)
I am hoping to find a pair of cheap yakima kayak racks in the near future to make the process that much easier...
I will work on the pictures for you next time I go out with the kayaks.

how heavy is the Gobi rack? Do you get much noise with it? I really like the integrated ladder on it but I had already bought a Kargo Master rack by the time I saw the Gobi. My Kargo Master is hella heavy at 150lbs (thats rack and basket).
its pretty heavy I had a garvin rack on my tj and its comprable 88 lbs as per http://www.gobijeep.com/Images/Gobi%...ifications.pdf
With the soft top it makes noise against the top above the cargo area. At highway speed I put the blower on high to blow out the soft top and I added a couple of styrofoam "buffers" to kill the flapping or shuttering.
with the addition of the styrofoam buffers, the noise is minimal and I don't really notice it to be any different with the tires and the radio...
With the top down you can tell it is louder just cause your head is right there and you'll notice the wind going over the front of the rack. That being said again it is not bad at all considering your on the highway with traffic and no top...
Gobi is coming out with a passenger side ladder in addition to the driver side ladder as seen in most of the pictures...
