Good luck with surfing questions, there looks to be not to many of us.

with the top down there are options or I just use a soft strap rack that I used on my previous vehicles. I've been looking at something that will allow me to leave the top on and there really are not any options. I was thinking of buying a light bar without lights and fab something that would plug into the hitch. I have some designs but have not buit anything yet.

best route would probably be to get the congo cage by Kargo Master.. it's the cheapest rack system that seems to get pretty good reviews. You could either get their load bars or get a set of load bars from yakima/thule if the rack would accept them...

I'll eventually go that route, but for now I just throw it in my unlimited with the tail hanging out the back window a bit... (I ride a 9')

Hope this helps

Cool

FCS and several other surf hardware companies make soft racks that go through the door openings. I use them on my jeep and have had everything from 3 shortboards to a stand up paddle board on there.

Short or long??? I'm in the same dilemma. I surf longboard and have a hardtop. If you have the top down and you have a 4 dr then just use the bars and a couple straps. On the other hand if you have a soft top its going to be pretty hard to get something good unless you spend the $400-$600 and get a nice rack.

Just keep the top down and use a couple pads on the roll bar to keep the wax from messing up the JK padding. I saw a soft top in the raised position rocking a long board several days ago, surprisingly, without any problem. Don't think I'd risk it though.

Put a towel down on each roll bar pad to prevent te wax transfere and use bungy cords... Worked good for me.

bump for others' solutions to mount a 10' longboard to a soft top jeep w/ the top up... transporting the board with the hard top or the top down is easy enough, but i plan on taking the hard top off by the middle to end of march.

i am thinking about some sort of mount on my spare me rear tire bike rack to support the end of my board sticking out of the back window. i have my old thule hang two and support bars from my old rack. i need to measure to see if this is a crazy idea considering how long my board is.

nk-jk... do you surf the hampton area?

I really wish I still lived close the the ocean. I really miss surfing Sunday mornings.

When I did put my board on top of the Jeep I used a Base Rack System for no top. But I had to mod it a bit to work.
