Default 16's vs 17's Tires and Wheels

What are the pros/cons of running 16's wheels/tire combo vs. 17's? I know there is a slight price differnce but is there anything else I should consider? Looking at Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. There is about a $25 per wheel increase in price for the 17" wheels compared to the 16's. About the same for the tires 315/70/17 vs. 315/75/16. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

I had 17's stock on my rubi but decided to go 16's. Yeah tires are slightly cheaper, but not much. Also there are many choices of tire sizes for the 17's vs 16's. I just liked the added tire coverage when airing down on the 16's.

You should have no trouble finding that tire size from any brand in either of those rim sizes. You'll just have to decide whether you want to pay more money for less sidewall or less money for more side wall. Either combo looks great imo

I think I am going to stay with 17's. I am in the same dilemma as you. $25 each doesn't seem like alot, until you multiply it by 10 (5 wheels 5 tires). $250 can go a long way on other mods. I am justifying it by looks alone and tire size. I like the look of the 17 x 9 and a 295 tire. Plus the tires I think I'll go with are D rated instead of E for hopefully a little smoother ride.

I would stick with a 17. I went with 16s when I get my 35s...now Im going bigger and not much to pick from with a 16inch rim.

I went with 17" alloys and 315/70r17 Duratracs. The 17" wheels keep the weight down. Also they are 8" wide which holds the bead real nice. I've had no problems airing them down to 12psi for off roading.

I had 16" wheels and found myself very limited on tire selection over 315/75R16. I now run 17's. They were part of a smokin' used tire/wheel deal. It'll let me go with a 37" tire a lot easier.

Agreed. I wanted a little more sidewall so I decided to go with a 16" rim. Plus the fact that my wife will kill me if I would have gotten anything larger than 35's.

However, if you think you're ever going to upgrade to anything bigger than 35's in the future, it'll be well worth it to go with 17" rim now. It's either an extra $250 now for 17's or well into the thousands later if you go larger than 35's later.
