Default Rugged Ridge Bumpers Paint Chipping?

I am really interested in the RR front and rear XHD bumpers because the prices are great but I've seen a few people who've had these bumpers have problems with the paint chipping and rust... Anyone who has had the front/rear for a good while please post, I'm not trying to get anyone who just put theirs on last week to mention how perfect theirs is

I have had my front and rear RR's on for over a year and no paint chipping or rust on mine yet. Some paint did flake off around teh bolts hole on the front D-rings when I put them on but they still have not shown any rust yet. I think the paint just flaked from tightening the bolts really no way around that. Overall I an very satisfied with them.

First mod we installed in August of '07 was the RR front bumper..... it's been under water many times..... brushed up on trees and scraped on rocks..... paint is still flawless!

Cool, I like all the positive feedback that I am hearing. I was about to change my mind about RR this morning because of what someone had said about the paint... but I wanted to leave it to the wonderful people here at jk-forum to help me decide. Thanks for all the post guys... keep em' coming if there are more!

I've got the Rugged Ridge XHD modular front bumper w/ stinger purchased 9 months ago direct from Rugged Ridge's online store (great people to talk to & very helpful). I do have some minor paint chipping on the stinger at the top (inside) on the stinger already. Wouldn't be from stones on highway because the chips are on the inside of the top hoop of the stinger. If it gets worst I'll just send it out locally for powder coating eventually. I don't really mind it though, it matches the battle scars on the rest of my Jeep!

all metal bumpers will chip and rust eventually, you just have to keep up with them.

I put on the RR front and rear bumpers with tire carrier about 2 years ago. For the price they are great. I have been less than satisfied with the amount of rust that they have. This could possibly due to salty roads in IL or something else. The front bumer isn't too bad, just where some rocks have probably hit it so I get that. The bolts are extremely rusty. I wish they had black bolt heads that stayed black. Mine got real oxidized real quick, then rusted. The D-ring bolts are almost completely white. After the first 9 months I had to call RR and have them send me a new tire carrier lastch due to this one being so rusted it wouldn't close anymore. They obliged. But still, makes you wonder.

One other thing I dis-liked about the design of the RR tire carrier. I was driving down the highway and my carrier opened up! Kinda of freaked me out. Here's what happened, the entire thing is dependent upon 2 little bolts that attach the latch to the bumper. Without that, it won't stay latched. the threads gave way. I ended up drilling the hole out and putting a carriage bolt all the way through the catch to sturdy it up. Couldn't believe they missed that detail in R&D.

I know it sounds like I am ripping on the product, for the price you really can't go too wrong. But you do get what you pay for. I have Ace Rock Rails and they are powder coated and take a much harder beating...but they don't flake like the RR powder coat does.

One more thing - I did put a post up a couple years ago about the D-ring snapping...they sent me a new one and told me I hooked it up wrong. That thread is still on here I would guess.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Good luck!
