Question Temporary Rim for Spare Tire?

Hi all, my ultimate goal is to carry a Gerry can on my fairly stock 2010 Rubicon for about a week. After the week is over, I won't carry it. I'm planning on getting aftermarket bumpers early next year, but I need a solution now.

I think I'm going to pick up a Smittybilt I-Rack ([ww.amazon.com/Smittybilt-2740-Textured-Universal-I-Rack/dp/B003DUFBR) because it looks like something I could use later as well, with an aftermarket tire carrier. However, I don't think that the center post will fit through the center hole in my stock rims. Am I right?

So I'm thinking that I'm going to have to find or buy a rim to use on the spare tire for the week I have the Gerry can on the back. It'll need to be a rim I could run on the Jeep if I end up getting a flat, so it will need to work with the other rims.

What size rim should I get? I can't find information about the current rims. Or will the post actually fit through the stock rims? Thanks!

You need to keep the same height on all four wheels if you plan on using 4x4 or if you have a limited slip rear diff (and use the tire on the rear).

I kept a Gerry on my stock tire, cut a block of 2x4 to fit into the rim, two ratchet straps. Held 5gals for plenty of highway miles.

Do you have any more pics of your setup? It looks great! I have a Rubicon, and I want to make sure I can use everything (4WD, lockers, etc.) and be able to drive at highway speeds on the spare if I have to use it. I just don't know what the measurements are, so I can start looking for a rim.

You are going to have a very hard time finding any sort of "smaller" or "temp" spare tire that is ANY smaller than the factory one. You may find a tire that is tall and skinny, but you will still need to find a rim that will work...that is remotely smaller.

I don't have the specifications for what you will need, but it may be hard/or expensive to track down. Since most vehicles with that tall of a tire carry a full size/steel wheel spare tire. Esp if you need to use your lockers or something on the spare.

I would call smitty and see if the post will fit through the stock wheel, it may. But watch your leverage on the gate the further you move that 40lb can out. Which is why I just strapped it to the stock wheel, it was as close as I could get it (less load against the gate)

I don't have any pictures of mine, because it really is just a block of wood and two ratchet straps.
Just my opinion.

Sorry if I wasn't making sense earlier. I'm going to use the original spare tire but I want to find a new rim to mount it on so I can thread the I-Rack through it. Really, my question is simply this: what are the specs for the rims on a 2010 Rubicon? Once I have those I can find a cheap rim to use that has a bigger hole in the middle.

So you just threaded ratchet straps through the spokes in your spare tire rim and attached it that way?
