Yep, they are virtually required for almost everybody in some occasions

Seriously, you don't necessarily need them. I don't have them. I do plan on getting them, but if money is a concern these are definitely something that can be added later. Whoever told you they were "required" was either trying to sell you something or was speaking of much larger lifts (4+ inches).

I've been running a Tera 4in for almost a year with only front adj lowers, I have a 4dr. If u have a 4dr the rear ds will last a long time unless it takes a hit, then your done. I'm just now going to get the rear uppers and lowers cause I gotta change the rear ds do to a wreck. You can do the 3in, I suggest frt lowers with it. Your frt ds if you have an auto will be your first priority when it goes to spitten grease.

How much are you looking to spend? I've been very satisfied with my Trail Master 5" kit.

For $1,325 you can get a Trail Master lift kit complete with all 8 adjustable control arms.

Or for another $450, you can get the same kit with front and rear drive shafts.

Edit: I just saw that you posted while I was typing my comments. So it looks like either of the kits I suggested would meet your needs. But only if you're going with 35" or 37" tires. Anything smaller would look a little odd on a jeep with 5" of lift.

With that 5" did u get shocks with the kit and how smooth does it ride.

Also I only have stock tires right now but looking to get 35's in future so maybe 5" is too tall. If you could recommend a 3" with everything at that price that would be great

Default Control Arms

Here is a very good explanation of what the arms do and when you need them. Kuddos to planman.
