Default Brakes with currie D60s

Hi guys,
I recently put 41 inch tires on 17 inch wheels under my JK.
I'm running the currie D60 axles, with the larger rotors in front.
Even with those rotors, the brakes suck, the thing just doesn't stop well at all
I've called Currie, they have no suggestions, then Ive called teraflex about their big brake system & they think it won't fit. I've even spoken to a guy about putting a custom
hydro brake assist system on it but he's concerned on how that would work with traction control and ABS. I'm in a bind, it sucks & Ive almost rear ended 3 different cars.

Has anyone got any ideas? Please let me know, I really need help on this one.

Cheers,

Aaron

I know guys on this forum HATE people that run 20's on their JK, but to be honest, that's your answer.. I honestly think if you're running 37's+, it'd be smart, and safe, to run a 20" wheel so you have the room for the appropriate braking system for that rotating mass and weight..

Since I just bought 5x 17 inch spyderlock beadlock wheels & 5 x irok 41x14.5R17 tires ($5k), it's not an option for me to change to 20 inch wheels & tires. Doesn't anyone else have any ideas? What do you think Hydro brakes would do with my abs? Different pads help? Others must have currie D60s with 40 inch tires, how do your brakes work?

Help!!

Stronger brakes = bigger brakes -----> Bigger rotors.. If the braking is that much of an issue, you need bigger wheels to accommodate bigger/stringer brakes.. Just the way it works.. 37"+
tires, in my opinion, should be running 20's for the very reason you're complaining about.. Otherwise, the braking system just is not adequate...

Ok, then I guess I'm going to go with Hydro brakes and be the guinnie pig. We'll see what it does to my abs and tracking control. If it messes with it, I'll turn that shit off. Hydro brakes will have that thing stop on a dime.

Doesn't the ABS and ESP work from feedback from the wheel sensors? Would a different master cylinder have any impact at all on those systems?

Hydro Brake

I'm not a mechanic, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn this week... though it was a suite and not the Holiday Inn Express...

No idea what it will do to ABS & Traction control, I guess I'll find out. Anyone else have ANY knowledge or feedback on this before I take the plunge? Anyone looked into this or tried this already??

Hey Aussie

I was in the same boat like u some time ago. I was and still running 37 maxxis Treps but the brakes were weak. after speaking to Dynatrac , Currie, Teraflex none of their products would fit I got my brakes fabricated with Toyota landcruiser twin piston free floating calibers the one which dont get stuck when mud jams in the calibers.

My current brake is twin piston free floating calibers, slotted rotors, and ebc green stuff brake bads . now i can jam my brakes any time on demand

And running 17" walker evans wheels
