Default Which winch to buy

I want a synthetic rope ( not cable) winch for my front LOD front bumper. I am looking at the 10,000 # Smitty Bilt XRC Comp and Rugged Ridge winches. Which do you prefer ? Any pro's or con"s. I think all of the Warn winches use steel cable

Thanks for your imput.

they are mostly the same. Depending where you buy the winch you can have synth cabling on a warn.
I got a RR but did not use it ennof yet to have a good point of view.

I like my smitty XRC8, but I have steel rope and I think it is great for a starter winch. Great price as well. Good Luck with your decision!

Ive got a smittybilt xrc 8

Ive used probably 20 times and lever that switches from free spool to engage is broke and stuck on engage and the weather has taken quite a toll on it, but it just keeps on ticking.

For the price its a good winch.

i just bought an XRC 8. i didn't have the money to spend on a Warn, and if i did, a Warn would be my choice. most of the guys who have experience with any kind of true offroading, where reliability is key, would likely say warn. theres a few others out there, but warn is the big taker. i wouldnt have buoght an XRC8 if i thought it would fail, but Warn would have been my first choice.

My only advice is buy quality. You want the best chance it will work when you need it or you will be kicking yourself.

they are essentially the same winch. as far as winch rope goes, i'm a big fan of synth but really, i would get a warn over the other two and run the steel rope until i needed to replace it.
