Why choose a leveling kit vs. lift?
Why would one choose to use a leveling kit versus a small 2" lift? Does this change performance? What is the better route to go if wanting to throw on some bigger tires?
Thanks in advance!

Leveling kits will lift up the front a little more than the back, to eliminate factory rake (where the front end of your rig is pointing down). I'm sticking tuned for why you'd go this route over standard lifts though
A leveling kit just brings up the front end. A lift kit lifts both front and rear. Usually most lift kits take out most of the rake also. We use a combination of lifts and spacers to achieve the desired ride height and rake of the owner.
how much of a bigger tire?
The purpose of a leveling kit is just that, to level out your jeep so the front end does not sag.
That being said, with most leveling kits you can fit 33" tires with no issues.
A lift extends your suspension, gives you a improved artuculation, and allows you larger tires, however the higher you go the more things you need to worry about.
ex track bars, control arms, driver shafts, extended brake lines ect ect.

I got a leveling kit to essentially get rid of the rake (which I hated). It was an inexpensive option to level the Jeep out while I wait for my factory tires to wear down (2007 with only 22,000 miles - taking forever!) Next set will be 35's, then I'll lift it a few inches.
and the higher you go usually the more bumpy the ride. leveling kits don't change the oem ride as much as a lift kit does.
+1 leveling kits lift both the front and rear, usually the front by 2" and the rear by 1". Lift kits will bet consecutive, +4" in the front +3" in the rear...

I used my leveling kit in conjunction with unlimited rubicon w/ hard top and tow package spring set to get rid of the factory rake an get a little lift. I gained somewhere between 2 and 2.5 inches all around. I do want to upgrade to 33 inch A/T tires once my M/Ts where out and with the rise I currently have it will not be a problem.

Well, what I am looking at is a 2" lift, mainly to run some 33s, I don't want to really go over 2" or 2.5", and I saw a leveling kit was a cheaper option that a lift, so I didn't know if it does the same thing essentially.
I chose the Teraflex leveling kit because it was only $130 & doesn't get into needing adjustable track bars, etc. With this kit I can run up to 34" tires (305/70/17) according to Teraflex. For me it was a cheap way to eliminate the factory rake & allow for a little larger tire without going too big on my daily driver. It's working well for me. Just can't wait until these crappy factory tires are a little more worn so I can justify new tires.

I also went with the Teraflex leveling kit. I didn't want to have to mess with changing anything else, and it also rides almost as good as stock. I'm running 305/65/17s with no problems. Plus you cant beat the price and ease of install. I paid $119 shipped and with my limited skills installed it in about 2 hours.
