Default Yes, another steering question

I have a 2.5" Rock Krawler lift, and yes it has been aligned with the steering wheel centered. When I make a right hand turn the steering wheel does not go back to center, then hit a rough section and the steering wheel centers as though it has been shaken loose. I have removed the steering dampner, as it was bent and thought this was binding. and this did not help

Any suggestions on what is going on?

Sounds like your castor is off due to the lift. Check the link below for a do it yourself allignment.

Cool

I'm not a pro but I'll quote the man who aligned my jk with 3 in lift and oversized rubber. " due to the fact I dont have adjustable control arms, I can not get the castor angle to factory spec." makes sense to me... I'm thinking you may have a problem in the steering line ex: steering box, etc.

I have noticed that if I'm not rolling and I center my steering wheel then jiggle it left and right I hear/feel a small/faint pop I felt it the day I purchased my jeep bone stock. Questioned the dealership about it the had their mechanics check it out and they found nothing, to be expected.

Ive not really had any problem with this and I have a lift and everything that would put more stress on the steering angles and alignment and all that.

But I'd say the fix is in the steering line somewhere!

Post what you find to share the knowledge.

Anyone else wanna take a stab at it?

You are correct. You will need adjustable upper control arms at the least to adjust the angles properly.

Thanks for the help. I have adjustable lower control arms and the caster is correct. No other steering issues. I verified it with two different shops, as I did not want to be that person. In fact the last shop also agreed that this was an issue and placed it on the ticket for warranty work. I want a general idea before I bring it into the stealership and love working on the Jeep myself.

I will check on the clunky steering as this sounds like it might be my problem. I will perform this mod this week and let you all know.

The clunky steering is a different issue and wouldn't effect your steering returning to center after a turn. Your looking at allignment issues with your problem. Toe-in and castor. How much castor are you running?

With your stock tires and 2.5" lift you haven't made a sifnificant change from your stock specs. Something has changed or the allignment shop set the allignment incorrectly.

Stock castor is (off memory) +4.2 degrees and your toe-in should be 1/8"

Planman you hit the bolt on the head. I really do feel like a dolt for not finding that bolt, but I am glad that it is fixed know. I appreciate you assitance.

I did not think about since I had torqed them down before brining it into the first shop. I assumed they torqed them back correctly........

Thanks
